Jared Mayden is in the mix to start at safety in the nickel defense. He will have to beat out Shyheim Carter to do it.

Early indications are the Tide defensive staff prefers Patrick Surtain II at Star. In that case, the corner opposite Trevon Diggs could be Josh Jobe or Shy Carter can play the third corner.

Justin Eboigbe will not be the starter at defensive end once LaBryan Ray returns, but the freshman will be a big part of the rotation this fall.

Ale Kaho is still working for playing time. He has reportedly added 10-15 pounds. He got some work Saturday with the outside linebackers.

Ben Davis appears to have a shot at the two-deep at outside linebacker.

Evan Neal worked some at left guard with the first unit. When Neal came in, Emil Ekiyor moved to center.

As of Saturday, the second unit cornerbacks appear to be freshman, Brandon Turnage and redshirt freshman, Jalyn Armour-Davis.

Freshman running back Keilan Robinson had surgery for a meniscus repair in April. There was doubt about him being full speed until mid-season. He may not be at full speed yet but two practices show he may not be far off.

There will be a punter battle between Skyler DeLong and freshman, Will Reichard.

Thanks a lot for posting that article, but the pinned 2019 Fall Camp thread seems like a better place for it.

My oh my... this guy is going to push for Tyler Love's legacy as the biggest no show 5 star of the Saban era.

I hope it clicks for him this year. I know he is giving the effort. Hopefully it all comes together. And he becomes a solid contributor

Watching Alfano in the all America game and his highlights, I was almost positive he would be on 2nd team DL.

the D rotation will be very interesting this year. and with the 4 game redshirt rule that will make it even more interesting. Let many of the freshmen get some game PT and see what they really need to work on. (not only will that built depth for the future and keep their heads in the year).

What are you Bama guys hearing on Zachary Evans front? Tank sounds like he is BARN bound. Lots of Dawg commits like Milton and Ratledge seem to be sending cryptic tweets about something big coming down - lots of speculation that it is about Zachary Evans.

Just wanted to hear what you guys are thinking now on him - realize Evans is a roller coaster ride.

Again hard to believe recruits don’t know Gus is coaching for his job this year.

Say what you want about the guy, recruits and his players love him. I’m not sure how he deflects the criticism when he’s recruiting these guys but he’s doing a masterful job at it.

The media has not been talking about it recently. That could change alot during the season.

What will the buyout be for the boosters to get out of that horrid Gus contract after this 2019 season?

Yep. This all falls apart on a bad season, whether the BOT pull the trigger or not.

Gus still has a buyout that will cause some indigestion and is set up for a good year. It's hard to fire a guy that goes 9-3 with a big ole buyout. He's safe this year. That is, of course, unless they fall apart and go 7-6 then all bets are off.

I wouldn't be so sure that he would survive if he went 9-3 that he doesn't get canned. If those 3 losses come from the combination of BAMA, UGA, LSwho, and A&M, then I think there is no way he survives even with the large buyout.
I was a true freshman walk on on a team that went 10-0 then lost to the Barn and eventually finished 10-2 and coach was fired after year 3!!

Alabama Football: Next for 2020 class Crimson Tide recruiting

Recruiting the 2020 class has predictably slowed for Alabama football. Let’s review what commits could happen next and who the Tide will wait on.

A lull in 2020 class results should not concern Alabama football fans. August is another NCAA-designed period of reduced contact. The pace will pick back up when official visits are allowed again at the start of the regular season.

Alabama football already has an outstanding 2020 class. It is ranked No. 2 in the 247Sports Composite. The class is officially at 22 verbal commits. Alabama football recruiting experts say the correct number is 21.

The expert opinion is 4-Star, safety commit, Javier Morton will not be in the class.??

Trying to project what will happen next is made especially difficult by the few available slots. A few top guys may wait until December.

One or two may even wait until February to make a decision.

Two who could be next

Cornerback prospect, 4-Star Joel Williams is scheduled to announce his decision on Sept. 9. Williams has plenty of top programs chasing him but most recruiting experts believe the Crimson Tide is pretty far in front for his commitment.

We think Nick Saban wants to add another cornerback in the class. The guy could well be former 4-Star and now community college transfer, Nadab Joseph. Joseph has great size for a corner at 6-feet-2 and 190-plus pounds. The Alabama football staff wanted him in the 2018 class but backed away due to concerns over academics.

He signed with Georgia but the Bulldogs were unable to get him cleared academically.

One who has cooled

Xavian Alford, 4-Star safety appeared to be near an announcement to the Crimson Tide a few weeks ago. It appears competing schools have confused him by claiming the Tide’s 2020 class already has six safeties. One, that is incorrect information and two, if the young man is concerned about competition, will the Tide staff cool on him?

The Tide will wait for

This list of names has not changed much over the last several weeks. The Crimson Tide staff will wait on 4-Star QB, Bryce Young, 5-Star TEs, Arik Gilbert and Darnell Washington, 5-Star RB, Zachary Evans and 4-Star LB, Phillip Webb.

In a similar hold, we think, is 4-Star LB, Jordan Banks. The Tide is in a strong position for Banks but he may have to wait for a confirmed slot.

Will the 2020 class finish ranked No. 1?

Clemson has a sizeable lead with only 18 commits but the Tide can still finish No. 1.

In addition to the players above, we believe the Alabama football staff wants to take two more defensive linemen and another wide receiver.
