Has it always been a big deal and a big following during the LSU dominance of the 90s or did it really become a bigger deal once the Gamecocks dynasty took place?

Just curious. It seems ever since the Gamecocks run, the SEC as a whole has been quite dominant with other programs winning titles, playing for titles, turning out quality MLB talent, etc.

I, for one, enjoy SEC baseball. It’s an overall better product than anywhere else in the country.

Go home. We get it... the B12 sucks arse and there are no fans to converse with in that shitty conference. We get it... you are jealous of the SEC, the fanbases, the crowds at the games. I know it sucks playing in front of 41,000 at TCU and 50,000 at Baylor and 30,000 at Kansas St. We all understand.

Still... go home.

At least the big 12 has a few good baseball team. The big 10 is absolute garbage.

Never realized how different the Conferences actually are from a revenue and power standpoint. The SEC profit shares, which is a nice insurance policy when the down cycles hit for certain teams. No way in hell I would put up with Utexas(though the fans I met pregame were actually cool) but overall OU has my respect. Big 10 is like old money that's starting to run out, Pac12 is old money that has run-out, BiG12 is like a neighborhood with a $25 million dollar home, a $10 million dollar home and a bunch of $500k homes, league has one team having way too much control. ACC is basketball and Clemson....more annoying than anything with brag about academics but have an enormous scandal like UNCs.

SEC, well it means so much that when we lose to other schools they still chant SEC at us. Outstanding if you ask me.

The SEC stepped up its game once LSU began dominating. The conference sent three (or four) teams to the CWS three times in the '90s, and has done it six times since then.

We made 3 straight finals and had like a 20 game win streak in the tournament. I think that classifies as a ‘dynasty’

Mississippi State was really the first school to build a baseball powerhouse in the 80's with Ron Polk, and then LSU in the late 80's with Skip Bertman. South Carolina was really good when the whole conference was kind of making a better effort to be competitive and it has kind of been nuts ever since then with Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Ole Miss getting in on the action. The last couple of few years have seen Kentucky, Auburn and Georgia get competitive as well. Aggies have been pretty darned good since they have been here too.

The only programs that haven't caught fire are Tennessee, Bama and Mizzou. Mizzou has had some damn good pitching though.

Mississippi State was a baseball school before the rest.

LSU fell in love with baseball because of a Super Regional against aggy.
Probably one of the craziest Super Regional ever

Arkansas going to the SEC from SWC helped as well

South Carolina won 2 national championships in a row and finished runner up in the 3rd year. They also set the ncaa record for most consecutive post season wins. Definitely qualifies as a dynasty.

CWS Champions in the last 40 years:

SEC - 11 (Georgia, LSU x6, South Carolina x2, Vanderbilt, Florida)
PAC 12 - 11 (Arizona x3, Arizona State, Stanford x2, USC, Oregon State x3, UCLA)
Southern Cal Baseball Association - 2 (Cal State Fullerton)
Big East - 2 (Miami)
Independent - 2 (Miami)
Big West - 2 (Cal State Fullerton)
Big XII - 2 (t.u.)
Conference USA - 1 (Rice)
WCC - 1 (Pepperdine)
SWC - 1 (t.u.)
Big 8 - 1 (Oklahoma)
Missouri Valley - 1 (Wichita State)
WAC - 1 (Fresno State)
ACC - 1 (Virginia)
Big South - 1 (Coastal Carolina)

The SEC and PAC 12 have owned College Baseball the last 40 years, winning 22 titles between 11 teams.

No other conference has won more than 2 over that same timespan.

All of the SEC's total CWS titles (11) have come in the last 29 years, while the PAC 12 leads all conferences with 18 total.

That's just a baby dynasty.

None of that is correct.

Yep. Norm Debriyn took the hogs to four CWS before they joined the SEC.

You should do some research...

aggy was the #1 ranked team. LSU went into College Station and knocked them off.
LSU was lucky to get out of there.

LSU and Skip Bertman used that to create Gorilla Ball and win multiple NCs in the 1990s.

I don't need to research anything. I was part of the LSU program. LSU had already been to the CWS in 1986 and 1987 before going to A&M in 1989 (look it up, do some research) when there were no super regionals. LSU outplayed A&M on the final day and swept a doubleheader from the Aggies to get to the CWS. LSU won both games that day because they played hard the entire game, and outplayed A&M.

As far as putting LSU baseball on the map, Skip Bertman did that. The fan interest was there from the beginning although it really took off in 1986, the first year the LSU baseball team was ever ranked No. 1.
