Is Frank Martin the worst recruiter of all time?

Likely the top 2 draft picks in the upcoming NBA Draft are from the state of South Carolina, Zion Williamson and Ja Morant
USCjr was very much in the race with Zion, but Frank Martin just couldn't close. When asked in a radio show how close South Carolina was to signing Zion, this was Martin's actual response:
Even worse was with Morant who was a 2* only by default, but actually chose Murray State OVER South Carolina. USCjr was Morant's home state team and he still turned them down for fricking Murray State
Better believe that a real recruiter like Pearl would have signed both of them and have USCjr as a title contender this year. And yes, Pearl can also scout low ranked, under recruited guys and coach them up; see Malik Dunbar and J'Von McCormick making big contributions for us this year.

Last time I checked Frank Martin has been to a final four and Bruce Pearl hasn't....
What exactly was your point again?

Um, he recruited a Final Four team.

I see you've missed the whole back story.
There's an "activist" in Columbia who gets to these guys, of his same race, and actively encourages them to go anywhere but Carolina. He's got a pretty damned good success rate.
Not sure wtf we did to piss him off, but he absolutely hates us.

The team he recruited for this season was good enough to beat Aubrun's best ever hoops coach - Cliff Ellis

And he's never going back either if he keeps this up. Might not even get better than an NIT invite from here out

Should I congratulate you first on being a moron, or beating a Coastal Carolina team with a losing record?

I’d go to Duke to over South Carolina for basketball too and that’s not a knock on Frank Martin.

The correct answer is Seth Greenberg when he was at Virginia Tech. He failed to recruit Steph and Seth Curry, despite the fact their dad was an alum. Steph went to Davidson and Seth to Liberty (later to Duke).
That has to be the biggest recruiting failure in NCAA history.

I forgot about that a-hole

It's one thing to not offer a kid that doesn't look like he'll be a great prospect at the time, nobody else big was offering the Curry brothers either.
But to be the only P5 offer for an instate 2* and still lose out to Murray State, that really highlights a lack of recruiting skill.

You would think after the Steph debacle, he would say “maybe I should recruit Seth”

VOLS have been able to grab 5* CG Josiah James (#1 player in SC #15 nationally) and 4* C DJ Burns (#3 player in SC #108 nationally) out of South Carolina in the last few classes as well. Carolina has been cranking out some talent. I'm surprised Martin hasn't been able to capitalize more on it.
