Would it be above Riley to adopt an option attack?

His offense is based mostly around the running game, contrary to popular belief. I personally think if Riley tweaked his offense to a more high powered army or navy approach, CFB would have no answer for it given the talent level year in and year out at Oklahoma.
Would be cool to see. Also, SEC related cause Jalen Hurts.

Why the frick would he run the option? Teams like ga tech and army run the option because they are woefully outmatched talent-wise and have to do something so try to negate it. OU is quite talented and has stud WRs out the arse, not to mention the last 2 heisman winners that won it by, ya know...throwing the ball.
OU going to the option makes less than zero sense.

I want to say something about your post really bad but I am gonna keep it to myself and just say: you can't be serious...

The RPO is an evolved triple option, so he does run a modern option attack

I'm going to say yes and no.
Adding in some option elements might not be a bad idea. If Oklahoma knows it can just line up and run over folks then by all means, run some wishbone... the triple option attack designed for teams with big brassy balls. Its more of a power running scheme at this point then anything else.
The problem is that the strength of Oklahoma is their passing attack while the strength of the modern triple option is those annoying 3-4 yard gains on every down they crank out.
Now if a team can't stop the option at all, like Houston against Army, then you see the option rolling up God like numbers. But usually you are looking at steady but low gains. Its why Army has won some games in recent years without attempting a pass.
A high octane passing attack, on the other hand, relies on throwing it a lot (with some runs mixed in to take advantage of folks expecting the pass) because you might get one or two incomplete passes every series of downs but who cares if the third one goes for 20 yards?
Do I expect Oklahoma will run quite a bit of read option with Hurts? You betcha. But I doubt they will run under the center midline options. Hurts knows diddly doo da about running the midline for one thing and for another with all that WR talent do you really want them to become, as Army WRs proudly proclaim themselves to be, wide blockers?
If you are going to line up, go full Wishbone, and tell people "hey diddle diddle, here it comes up the middle" then by all means go for it. But you need a team built to just line up and bully people. That is not what Oklahoma is built for.

Not happening. RPO off counters, quick slant, two read passing game, and designed QB counters. Depending on Hurts evolution they'll just run the same spread they've had so much success using with a few more designed QB runs.

Do people really not know that OU is a run first team that just happens to be ridiculously dangerous all over the field? Riley has ran the ball more than passing since he got to OU with the RBs they have every year. The fact that OU has such good WRs and QBs just seems to make people think they have to be a passing team. Not the case.

The triple option won’t beat teams disciplined in the trenches. The option most run is more than enough with a mobile Qb. His issue is defense not offense
