I don't think the DL was the problem. It was the defensive backfield.

We got zero pass rush all night. Hell That slug of a QB LSU has would have had a good night with all the time sunshine had last night.

I've been watching Clemson's DL for three seasons now and I still think they are overrated. I think Ohio State and Mississippi State had a better DL than Clemson's. I'm not taking anything away from them but they are simply not what the media makes them out to be.
We lost this game due to two costly turnovers, a lack of pass rush, a green secondary, and a defensive coaching staff that is still learning. And, Clemson has the offensive talent to exploit our defensive deficiencies. If not for coaching we don't beat UGA. In my opinion UGA was more talented than Clemson but Clemson is better coached than UGA.

Clemson's D-line was being handled pretty well by our O-line until they started to pin their ears back and come after the QB. Even then, we could still gash them with the run but the LB could play soft and give up 8 yards per run because at that point we needed 20+ yards per run because of the clock.
Short yardage, the D-line would slant toward the TE and we needed to be bouncing short side. That was something we talked about a few days before the game. aTm, MsSt both danced on that grave and the Clem coaches like to dance.

It was the perfect storm. A ton of staff turnover plus losing guys to the NFL. If Minkah and Payne had come back like Clemsons DL, the whole unit would've been better.
And Tua's picks didn't help any either.

I’m sick of hearing about talent, sounds like LSU to me.
I would have taken Eryk Anders, Bobby Greenwood, Nick Gentry, John Fulton, Cory Reamer, and Will Lowery last night instead of the shite we got from the pass rush, Savion, Thompson, and Mack. Talent be damned

We gifted them a pick TD and pissed away 25 points on four drives where we reached 1st and goal but only scored 3 points total. 7 + 25 = 32. We lost by 28. And we threw a pick in the red zone on another drive. We could've (should've) won that game.
I was very disappointed in our defensive plan and calls. Venables did a great job with the variety of disguised blitzes. We were very vanilla, rushing 3 most of the time and showing our blitzes when we did call them. We made it easy for Clemson's offense. Our goal-to-go offensive play calling was very bad.
This loss was not like the final score. And it falls much more on a poor job of in-game coaching than on the players or anything else, imo.

This. I can't remember the last time Bama had LBers that were this bad at reacting to a play.
2014, that's why Zeke ran all over our arse.

Some of it comes down to coaching. Time to start over on defense. Need better coaches, not just recruiters.
Pruitt would have blitzed 9 if that’s what it took to get pressure on Lawrence.

OL looked bush league but the offense put up over 500 yards? Make that make sense.
The OL got absolutely manhandled pretty much every trip to the red zone

These are some of the reasons I’ve long advocated taking a few more in-state kids in recruiting. It’s not the worst thing in the world to have the luxury of plugging in a fourth or fifth year guy that’s waited and developed in the system.
They’re much more willing to stick around and wait their turn. And it’s hard to beat a kid that’s got his entire heart in the program from an early age.
