Agreed....I’m old school, I’m my book everyone has to earn it. I believe in principles and I would have told him and daddy to Shut up.....like I said I agree doing so is wrong, but it’s happened before around the country and in other sports,....perhaps Kirby felt pressure that if he pissed off the 5 star kid he would lose favor with boosters and or admin at Georgia. Ironic since the kid is leaving anyway because a little playing time is not what he wanted. Hopefully Ohio State makes him earn it

What I'm about to say is no slight to UGA and their fans. But, I don't believe Ohio State is guaranteeing Fields anything. I think it's a matter of credibility. Ohio State has more credibility than UGA as far as being a championship program but also when it comes to developing dual threat QBs. The coaching staff at Ohio State has done this while Chaney hasn't developed one dual threat QB that I know of. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if Urban is roaming the halls of the football facility in Columbus giving input here and there regarding the handling of Fields.

There is a lot of speculation but the simplest answer is probably correct.

Fields thought he could beat out Fromm. He also wanted playing time and didn’t want to redshirt. Our backup leaving didn’t help matters. CKS let him play to get experience and give us a viable backup. Remember Eason went down in the first game the previous year.

From what I understand, Fields only started for 2 years in HS. When he got to UGA it became clear he didn’t have near the football IQ to beat Fromm. He played more than any backup I can remember and other than against Umass was pretty meh....with a tendency to tuck and run. If his playbook was limited...that was probably as much on him as anyone.

He got frustrated and has an ego....so he thought he should play more. This probably led to more internal stress than we’ll ever know and his eventual departure. Also...I can tell that if LSU and TX were confusing and getting after Fromm...Fields would’ve gotten killed. I don’t think he sees the field and reads defenses well enough to have had a Tua moment. No HC is going to put him in that situation just to teach him a lesson or to give him reps to make daddy happy.

CKS could’ve probably handled better...but there was no solution Fields would be happy with other than becoming the starter. That wasn’t going to happen anytime soon with his background and now being in a pro style offense behind Fromm. I doubt he was promised anything other than being able to compete for the role.

He may turn out to be all world but coming to UGA in that situation was a bad choice. Maybe even recruiting him was a bad choice...but how do you turn that down if you’re Smart?

Him leaving is the best thing that could’ve happened under these circumstances.
