The talent will be there in 2019 but will Smart show he's learned some lessons?
The fact that Kirby defended his moronic decision was more discouraging than the decision itself. Don't expect a lesson to be learned.

Whether or not Kirby can improve as a game day coach will determine if next year is our national title year or if we are scrapping to win the division.

I do worry that he's a stubborn sumbitch. Let's hope it was just pride and that he secretly knows when he's fricked up.

If not, his growth as a head coach will be limited.

I will bite.

The game was tied. 3+ minutes to go. Bama had a mobile QB and 4 downs to play with to get 3 points. They just marched at will against us the prior drive.

We were not stopping their offense with 3 minutes on the clock (the entire run/pass playbook being open to them). Pushing them back 24 yards on a punt wasn't going to make a difference. They sliced us up in 5 plays and just over a minute (in reality, 24 more yards would have drained more clock).

Our hope was that they fumble the punt. Or we don't give them the football. We opted for the latter.

The play was a pass to our NFL running back against man coverage from a linebacker. The throw was to come from our "all everything" talent at QB. Swift against man coverage in a punt safe? There are high school QBs in Georgia that I would trust with that play call. One of the big pluses against tight coverage would be a PI call.

I'm fine with the playcall. We definitely need to get better execution on these designs. The snap should have been out quicker. Tucking the football should never have been an option (the hope of a defensive penalty being the reason).

There are other playcalls to question (fake against LSU was pointless. LsU's offense is not a juggernaut and there was no point to press at that juncture of the game)
