Friends kid is a Sophomore in HS and wants to know more about Mizzou.
Suggestions?
Currently, what are their best programs?

I don't know much about their school, but Missouri isn't a bad State overall. Lots of opportunities and things to do in the big cities and the rural parts of the state.
What other universities is he interested in and what is his current location? Any reason why Mizzou? - not downing it all, just seeing why he is making it an option.

Always will be journalism. Top 5 in the world in most rankings .
STL and KC are turning into striving city's for recent grads too.

Mizzou's journalism program used to be outstanding (it may still be). Same with its veterinary program.
I don't know much else to tell you other than it really isn't a traditional SEC school and it gets pretty damn cold in Columbia, MO in the winter.

As mentioned before, they're known for Journalism despite Pat Forde.

One of the few schools in the nation with law, med, vet and a research reactor on one campus. The own all 3 major med centers in town and are negotiating the purchase of a brand new facility in Jefferson City. If the kid is interested in the medical field, it's a solid place to go.

I know several of the older TAMU guys are Mizzou alums in big animal vet school. Why I was gung ho adding them to the SEC.

Did not know this, how long have they had it?
Is it a research for medicine or energy?

Missouri is a fine school.
What is better is that its a good school in a place with a good economy.
The Missouri college of Business doesn't get a ton of press but its a fine place to get a degree and land a job in a nice place to live.

ACC and SEC schools in NC and GA
The South but I suspect they are not native. Kid seems pretty sharp tho and should do well in school.

Law school is ranked 65th behind 4 other SEC schools.
Med school is ranked 65th for Primary Care and 82nd in Research. Vandy is the only SEC school rated higher in either category.
The reactor has been in operation since 1966 and is used primarily for medical isotope production but has other applications as well. It was upgraded to 10 MW in 1974 and is the largest of its kind in the US. They provide medical isotopes to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and to Boone Hospital in Columbia. They have a new cyclotron for producing imaging isotopes and they distribute to the entire state.
There is a lot of value on the campus.

Back to the Journalism school
What makes it good?
Pulitzer Prize winners?
Hard news reporters?
Famous writers?
Just solid producers of journalism talent?
I know in sports reporting Vanderbilt gave us Grantland Rice but it also gave us Skip Bayless and Clay Travis.

Wife (no pics) graduated with Doctorate in Psychology from Mizzou. She was hired immediately by Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. She had no connections to Johns Hopkins. Her Doctorate spoke for itself. That tells you its a great school and Psyc program.

I smoked pot with Johnny Hopkins.
It was Johnny Hopkins and Sloan Kettering. And they were blazing that shite up every day.

I thought they had a good Psychology program back when I was a lot younger as I knew some of their (now retired staff). How old are you guys and are they still good today. Thinking Psychology or Journalism is where they are aiming but still a young kid.
