ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. says Williams is surging toward the top of his big board and could challenge Ohio State's Nick Bosa for the No. 1 overall pick in 2019.

"We thought Raekwon Davis would be the dominator (for Alabama), moving in for Da'Ron Payne and of course we had Jonathan Allen a couple years ago, but Williams is closer to Aaron Donald than I think Ed Oliver is," Kiper said during Wednesday's SportsCenter appearance. "He's a third-year sophomore. I think Oliver from Houston was expected to be that (Aaron Donald) guy, but he's not as big as Williams and of course he had the injury and doesn't have the sack production Williams already has had with five. He could have eight or nine.

"Williams has been killing double teams. He's a big effort guy. Great hand usage. He combines power with quickness. Quinnen Williams, the nose tackle for Alabama, has done a heck of a job and has really been the difference-maker up front for the Crimson Tide."

I know Q has become the man qb's fear the most in the SEC, but I never dreamed he could possibly be the number overall pick. He has surpassed my expectations.

Damn. Hoped he would come back. I made a thread a few weeks back about his ascension. It sucks when you only get 1 real year of production out of a force like that.

I don't think anyone saw it or he never would have redshirted.

He has been the best player in football regardless of position outside of Tua and Kyler Murray.

Bama has gotten some dominant interior lineman out of Bham. Marcel Dareus, Daron Payne and now Q. Will.

Q Williams beats double teams on the regular and still makes the play. I hate to see him go but any underclass man that is guaranteed a first round pick should always go.

I remember reading a story about Quinnen after he committed to Bama. The story about his mom's passing and Quinnen taking on extra roles to help the family in addition to the school /football work. I remember thinking...this kid is going to be something: talented with a work ethic and priorities. I'm sure there a lot of feels type stories all throughout CFB but...I hope he does go as the top pick (and has a great last 5 games in Crimson)

Yeah like letting him get away with being bear-hugged and leg whipped.

Good thing for Bama is he wants to come back next season and refine his techniques.

Oliver deserves it. But so does Williams. Oliver is getting double and triple teamed every game. Would not be surprised if Williams and Oliver went 1 and 2. They are dominant

Not surprised. He's about as dominant as it gets.
