Force Fitz to pass defensively.

What about offensively?

Offensively it’s a steady dose of the law firm of Williams, Davis and Sternberger

Honestly Jimbo just needs to pull out his game plan from Kentucky, dust it off a little, and make just a few changes.

Stop the run and force Fitzgerald to pass, that’s obvious.

On the other side of the ball get some sort of a run game going between Williams and Corbin to take some pressure off Mond, and then have him throw some easier routes to Sternberger to get a good flow and then open it up from there. Quartney Davis had an excellent game against USCe so hopefully he shows up to play as does Rogers who looked amazing against Clemson but hasn’t don’t much since (somewhat due to nagging injury).

Mostly need Mond to not do anything dumb and have our receivers help him out some.

The run game stalled quickly against Kentucky, so Fisher started calling pass plays to Williams to loosen up the defense.

There is no way MSU can keep running Fitz out there. If he opens the game with a few quick stops then he's going to be benched. He may not even start. He's been beyond bad.

His backup is a worse passer than he is and isn’t a power runner.

At this point they’d be better off scrapping the RPOs and running Wing T/Veer concepts from the gun.

And A&M’s secondary is inferior to both Florida and LSU. Fitzgerald has torched the secondary before. He should’ve played better against LSU.

The key for the defense is stopping on the run. Then jumping on the short routes and making sure the pass rush gets home before longer passes can be thrown

Must stop the QB run no matter who is playing QB. I expect it will be Thompson.

What does that even mean, he “should’ve played better against LSU”?

He didn’t play well because he isn’t a good quarterback. He completed 50% of his passes for 140 yards and a pick against us last year. Hell, they only ran for 220 yards. We got blown out last year because our offense didn’t do dick, we only gave up 360 yards. And our defense is better this year.

He torched us in 2016, a game completely irrelevant to this one because it was two years ago, both teams have different coaches and he’s regressed.

He’s digressed.

It happens.

They’ll spam Power Option and RPO. It’s what they do. The missing element that used to make that work is the realistic threat Fitz’s passing. Running Power Option at our line is the best thing we could ever hope for, especially when we don’t have to defend the pass and can stack the box.

See also: Auburn (though Stidham is the better passer, he’s not cut out for keepers on Power Option at all, and that’s the basis of Gus’ offense, so the issue with them is the inverse: a QB run based offense with a QB who can’t run).

If we trot out Fitz out there, he's going to get booed on when he gets a couple of 3 and outs. The feeling around here is that Thompson is going to get a few drives. But we aren't sure if that will make a difference with the bad WRs and Pass Blocking our OL does...

I don't see how A&M doesn't lose this game unless they score less than 14 points. And A&M might be able to win scoring less than that.

In conference play we've scored:
7
6
23
3

With as out of sync as the offense has been, I don't see A&M having a big issue.

Our defense is pretty solid though. That's the only reason we haven't been blown out. In fact the #1 reason I'm pissed about this season is because we are wasting what I believe is our best defense ever on this high school offense we are putting out there. The offensive coaching staff has been a disappointment. But I'll still be in Starkville this weekend for the game.

Jimbo seems like he's doing good so far. Should be fun to see what he does there.

Fitz has INT problems but in general we don't force a bunch of turnovers. If we can intercept Fitz, 1 to 2 times then I think we'll pull away and win easily.

The way Fitz is throwing the ball, you won't have to necessarily "force an int". He's the only SEC QB to not have at least 1 Passing TD and has the most INTs in Conference Play.

We're absolutely stunned that he's still starting. Because let's face it. I can throw for the most INTs and no TDs in conference play.

So who’s in line behind fitz? Does he suck that badly?

Keytaon Thompson. No stats in an SEC game. Crazy stat from SFA 63-6 blowout: he was 13 of 31 but had 5 TD passes.

He started and played in the bowl game vs Louisville last season since Fitzgerald had his knee injured vs Ole Miss

quote:

11/20 127 yards 6.3 ypa 0 TD 1 INT 78.8 QBR

He was solid through the air. Better than what Fitz is currently doing

quote:

27 carries 147 yards 5.4 ypc 3 TD 24 Long

For all the talk that Fitz is 10x better than him on the ground. He ain't half bad.
