Stupid play-call against Louisiana

Anyone else bothered by the Tagovailoa designed run in the first quarter?
I understand that he's a good runner, and that's a part of his game. At the same time, we were up 21-0 at that point, and we were driving for another score. Risking him in a game that was already comfortably in hand, against an opponent we thoroughly outclassed, was stupid in the extreme.
We have a stable of talented backs. We have a backup quarterback who's a fantastic runner. Why we'd call that play at that point in the game, at that point in our season, makes no sense to me.
He took a big hit, and was driven to the ground on his left shoulder. That could have been a season-altering play. In fact, I wonder if it's why Hurts came into the game for a bit after that touchdown.

Yup. I thought it was pointless.

When the guy on the bench is 26-2, you can afford to run your entire offense.

Probably should just save Tua for when we need him against UGA.

I admit I wasnt happy about that. Damien Harris has 1 touchdown for the year.

There's was no need for it. Risk vs reward.

Tua all suited up for his next game.

Who the hell downvoted me for saying Damien has 1 touchdown for the year? All you have to do is go check the stat on espn.

Maybe we just shouldn't let Tua play at all until the LSU game?

I see only bad that could happen. He can run, we all know that.

I hope this is sarcasm, because it's not at all what I advocated or even implied.
Tua is the linchpin of our offense. Jalen is capable, no doubt, but he's not as good as Tua. And I have no issue with Jalen coming into games in the first half, if we have a comfortable lead.
No, my problem -- which I thought I stated fairly plainly -- was the "risk vs. reward" equation mentioned earlier. The reward of calling a designed QB run with him against Louisiana was getting a first down, and possibly a touchdown. We were already up 21-0, and it was pretty obvious the game was well in hand at that point.
The risk, though, was an injury to the linchpin of our offense. In other words, the risk far outweighed the reward.
Which makes it a stupid play call, in my opinion.

I said the same thing when it happened, I was like, jeez I like that play in our playbook but is now really the best time?
Maybe they want to practice it in a real game setting, but I'm also against letting him take big hits unnecessarily in a game where the outcome is not in doubt.

It’s just to have it on tape so opposing LBs will respect it...

It is sarcasm. But if we're that concerned about Tua getting hurt when a game is already in hand, realistically we could just sit him out in almost every game the rest of the season and guarantee that he won't get hurt. We won't need him; the games are basically over before they start in many instances.
The gnashing of teeth over Tua running the ball once or twice in a game is ridiculous. He plays football. It was the FIRST QUARTER.

Or maybe we should rely on our stable of RBs to hammer opponents LBs, while we keep the best QB in the history of the university, and future first pick of the NFL draft upright and healthy so he can guide this team to back-to-back titles.
If a play breaks down vs a worthy opponent let him run, but till then... stop running the QB

It’s to give other teams something to see and I bet that there is a RPO set-up off that play for later on this year.

The odds of Tua getting hurt are probably greater on a pass play than a run. On a designed run, he isn't going to get blindsided, and the impact is going to be right in front of him, and he can protect himself. On a pass play he is much more vulnerable.
How was it that he broke his hand?

Hand hit someone's helmet on a follow through.
