We don't know yet if any of those pre season and early season rankings are legitimate. Your ”logic" assumes that they are.

Because preseason polls don't matter, except for the fact that they matter a huge deal... for some reason.

For starters, Washington is still ranked in the top 10. Miami is in the 20’s.
Second, Auburn is ranked #7 now and LSU is #12. Auburn has a short climb to the the top 5. LSU is too far back to jump that high.
