I've always known them as Louisiana Lafayette. When the name change? And why?

They are the premier University in the state, and have a much better quarterback and offense than their rival LSU.

They aren’t actually “Louisiana” like the way Texas or Cal refers to themselves as such. It’s an athletic branding thing they’re trying to branch out away from ULM, LA Tech, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana etc. the name of the university is “The University of Louisiana at Lafayette.”

The only problem is, being in the sunbelt and not dominating in most sports. They’re not the flagship of their system. They might be one of the better schools in the system but definitely NOT the flagship.

Yep, and are 0-20 vs LSU, with an average score of 1.14 - 44.91 ppg.

Here in Lafayette they are referred to as Louisiana. I personally refer th them as Uh la la. And ULM as Louisiana. For they have beaten a Saban Coached Alabama Team.

They’d probably beat LSU this year.

All uses of the name “University of Louisiana” must be followed by the word “at”
and the institution’s geographic location. No typographic variations within the name
are permitted. The word “at” must be no less than 50% and the geographic location
must not exceed 100% nor be less than 80% of the University of Louisiana name.
Any institutional use of “University of Louisiana” without the “at” and geographic
location is prohibited.

Section d of Louisiana State law 45. Why then wasn't LSU renamed The University of Louisiana at Baton Rouge?
