We've all done the finger pointing. How about some potential fixes that would encourage students to 1. Go to the games instead of partying at the houses etc and 2. Stay to the end of the game.

There are a lot more creative people out there than me, so what ya got?

Just spit balling myself:

Game day concerts. See if you can't get some decent performers to do a concert after the game, on the field. Shut the gates to start the 4th quarter or at half time so they're not just showing up for the concert.

Hand out vouchers at the end of the game for free (insert food from whichever restaurant).

Have a designated student tailgating section near the stadium that you have to have a ticket for in order to get in. Not sure how this would fly with the alcohol.

I don't know that the kids care enough about their grades and I don't know that grades should be tied to game attendance but hand out vouchers at the end of the game redeemable for however many extra credit points to be used as the student wishes.

Set aside some select parking spots on campus to be given out after the 4th. Obviously, limited supply.

Begin a new tradition after a scoring drive. Truman doing push ups is fine. Firing a cannon is cool. But do something that makes the students feel more connected with the players. Some version of the Lambeau Leap. Probably not possible with the change of sidelines.

I don't know that any of those are wise and don't know that any would work. Any thoughts?

Throw an orange on the field after the first touchdown of the season?

Sign a five star player or 2 and hype him just like the basketball team did with MPJ. Especially if he's a qb. It helped them sell out the whole season even if the stands wasn't always full because he didn't play.

How's the wi-fi in the stadium? Top notch? It's a must.

What about incorporating a student-only, Tiger Tail looking waterslide into a pool for days like Saturday? Silly? Of course it is, but it would be a unique attraction if done right.

A student-only concession area meant to cater to their tastes.

Sell the student tickets with a voucher for food and drink concessions.

The Cardinals seem to do a bobblehead every other night with sponsorships. Not sure what would appeal to young adults, but find different sponsor giveaways for students in attendance. Magnetic schedule, bobbleheads, tshirts, etc.

Get fraternities and sororities more involved. There is close to 8,000 students that participate in Greek life.

Actually getting them to go and stay at games would help. Work with Greek board to have after game parties or rewards for going to the games.

Help bus these kids to road games and get them to hang out with there brother fraternities and sister sororities on different campuses. This would help our fan base that would actually travel.

This could be a good start, but probably not plausible.

My brothers Frat would party during games at Mo State, but would rarely go unless it was homecoming.

He went to more Mizzou games than Mo State games.

How 'bout lowering the student ticket prices waaay down for the "least popular" games? A seat selling for 5-bucks makes more $$ than an empty seat.

A lot of students were gone because of labor day weekend so expect student attendance to go up from here. The SEC rule of no re-entering hurts a lot but can't do anything about that. Best thing to help though would be to win games and gain some more excitement in the program.

This was a major issue. What happens when you drink all morning and then stop for 3.5 hours?

Win and everyone shows up, but a mediocre team and why should I quit partying to watch a noncompetitive team?

Why not encourage all fans to attend rather than just students? Something tells me the 44k attendance (more like 36k actually scanned) is not just because the students didn’t show up.

I hear ya but something has to be done so they want to come. Once they start coming, maybe just maybe they'll realize what they're missing out on. Right now, they think staying outside the gates is more fun.

Well we have a 5 star starting on defense and a potential Heiaman QB.

You can certainly start a thread about the other types of fans and possible solutions. I brought up the student fans because, frankly, they potentially bring the most energy. I will cheer but in all honesty, my 18 year old son brings more energy and gets more hyped up, acting all crazy and what not.

Definitely needs to be improved.

Sounds corny but I could see that. Hell, a lot of pro teams do just as corny of stuff.

Great idea. So how do you get their interest?

It's not so much about the actual game experience, which is what all these answers focus on.

Create positive connections between players and students: like the dorm move-in help they did.

Don't pillage the campus and create hatred between athletes and students.

Don't be massive D-swingers everywhere you go. Be a little humble.

That shite'll go along way in getting people to support you and FEEL APART of what is being accomplished.

As for the game experience: hurry it the frick up. The TV timeouts have killed live games. It really has. It went over the line. It's now taking a younger generation to rebel because the dri-fit polo wearing, credit card debt, porn addict, loser-subs have continued to attend and sit there with some other dudes name on the back of their grown-adult backs with a blank stare of stupidity as they sip a 12 dollar beer while commercials are being played on the broadcast.

TLDR: Have Fortnite tournaments on the jumbo screen during the game.

If high school star players watch Missouri play and see the stadium half empty then those star players will look else where to join a school that have a lot of fans support at all games. Also need to cut down scheduling cup cake games so it bring in better competition and more attention to fans and recruits to take a peak and might want to go to Missouri if it is lively in the stadium.

You can’t make students like football. Finding a way to get those students who could careless about football and make it a great college experience is the issue.

For students timeouts should be one of the best parts of the game. They should be doing crazy shite making a great atmosphere and the stadium loud for the rest of the fans no matter the score.

Getting students who don’t give shite about sports and especially football involved and have a great time doing it is the solution.

Thoughts on encouraging students to attend is not about winning. It’s about them being excited about going to games. That starts with not just the football program, but the university. Finding ways is their job and it shouldn’t be that damn hard.

Getting fans and alumni to come to games helps when you are winning, but it should not for students. Sitting in the student section should be like a big party.

That would be a goal, not a solution.
