They are .500 against Mississippi State (1-1-1).

They have a losing record against every other charter member of the SEC.

Yes this includes losing records to Vandy and Kentucky.

Yes this includes losing records departed members Tulane and Georgia Tech.

Yes this includes a 0-1 record against Sewanee (who left the SEC winless after a few seasons)

The more games they played, the more lopsided the record

4-14 against Alabama
15-34 against Auburn
3-9-1 against Florida
18-42-4 against Georgia
6-11-2 against Tennessee

The only other winning records they have over SEC programs are expansion teams

South Carolina
Missouri

If Clemson were a current SEC program they would have the 3rd worst conference winning % overall, ranking 13th of 15.

Was much worse for them until they won in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017.

They have only recently owned Auburn, but Auburn has dominated them historically.

16 and 17 were good Clemson teams, but 11 and 12 surprises me.

Clemson is 32-30 against SEC from 1980 on. Which matches up with it becoming a traditional university after being a Citadel type military college.

Clemson already has 11 wins against SEC this decade which is tied with Clemson's total number of wins against SEC in the 30s, 40s and 60s combined. lol

It will be interesting to see what programs have more than 32 wins against the SEC since 1980 if any. I would guess maybe FSU.

Update: FSU is 34-27 against SEC since 1980. 10-2 this decade.

2011 and 2012 Clemson were both really good teams that were close to getting over the top. They had a lot of talented players, but were mainly lead by the offense.

Tajh Boyd, Nuke Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, Martavis Bryant, etc

And, as we know, 2011 and 2012 Auburn were mediocre and terrible.

2012 doesn't count. Never happened.

Maybe fsu(but I doubt it) and Miami was well known for not wanting to schedule SEC teams other than UF, back when they were independent and in the Big East.

Very few programs outside the SEC play the SEC often enough to acquire that many.

Clemson has likely played more SEC opponents than any other P5 program over that time really. They play South Carolina every year and regularly play UGA and Auburn and such. They get matched up against SEC in bowls often too.

Clemson is in a lot better position to capitalize on its title than it was back in 1981, just with the improvements to the campus, the town having more stuff, social media exposure, etc.

if Clemson can make it to a 4th straight playoff, it is looking at become a UNC/Duke type of brand within football. even Duke and UNC generall ydon't go to final 4 four years in a row. lol

IF Watson lives up to his potential in the NFL, you could see him basically serve as Clemson's type of Michael Jordan recruiting angle.

Hopefully FSU will continue to struggle for next couple of years and they drop off completely, paving the way for Clemson to get to playoffs almost every year. lol

2011 Clemson won the ACC and Auburn sucked. 2012 Clemson beat LSU in the peach bowl and Auburn went 0-8 I think in the SEC

I don't see anybody in the ACC stopping Clemson this year. Of all of the top teams, I think Clemson has the best chance of making the playoffs this year, assuming they improve their passing game just a little bit.

Hell they almost won 2010 which would have taken Auburn out of the national title picture

clemson hasn't won at G Tech, and at FSU much. Plus texas am at home.

Have BC on the road this year and they have some nice talent at QB and RB.

NCSU and Cuse both have QBs who will get at a shot at NFL. NCSU gives Clemson a tough game almost every year. it is pretty incredible Clemson has won 13 of the past 14 with them b/c they usually play great and they have had a lot of NFL QBs.

he is probably not

his number for Clemson vs the SEC is almost accurate (they are 32-30-1 against the SEC since 1980)

throw in the games against So Car, Mizzou & aTm since 1980 and Clemson is 43-34-2 against current SEC members

9-2-1 vs So Car (1980 - 1991)
1-1 vs Mizzou
1-1 vs aTm

lol I was wondering why it was so close to .500 given Clemson has dominated SC over the decades.

Clemson is basically two different schools in its history. i don't recommend looking at its sports history prior to 1965 when it became a university.
