Background
I am working on a gift for my dad. He is a huge college football fan and Bama fan and now in his 80s. I am finding old games, documentaries, etc. and burning them to DVD so he can watch them.

I had an idea to find old Leonard's Losers audio clips and include those as well. I can remember listening to his show together on Saturday mornings.

Help Finding Old Recordings

Does anyone know where I can find old audio of this show?

I have included the below youtube link to what I have found and maybe introduce a little southern football tradition to some younger fans who never had the privilege of listening to Leonard's entertaining prognostications.

Leonard's Losers - Before We had College Game Day

Thanks for any help or even discussion on this.

Edit: Documentaries is not the correct word above. We have purchased many of those. I have started a collection of Bryant Showss, news clips, etc that may not be included in the professional documentaries.

Vividly remember they'd play that on the radio before high school football games when I was a kid.

Good luck on your search

I think it broadcast out of GA so that might be a place to start

They also had a weekly magazine so you may be able to find old hard copies somewhere.

In 1958, Postero taped his first Leonard's Losers radio show at WRFC-AM in Athens. The show described college football matchups and then predicted which team would lose. Postero taped his show using a pseudonym of "Leonard Postosties" and was introduced by his sidekick "Percy Peabody" (also voiced by Postero). The show's "schtick" was a rural delivery style (à la Jerry Clower) and comedic scripts using alternate team nicknames related to the school mascot or the school itself. Some of these references included "riflemen" for the University of Tennessee Volunteers, "red clay hounds" for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, "giant water lizards" for the University of Florida Gators, "pachyderms" for the University of Alabama (because of their elephant mascot), and "the Pope's pupils" for the University of Notre Dame (for its status as a Catholic university). Leonard claimed that he possessed a "little smart pill machine" to come up with his prognostications and always closed his broadcast with a plea to his sidekick to "get me outta here, Percy." A game might be described as follows:

"Phillip Fulmer leads his Rifleman into the Athens Kennel for a shooting match with Jim Donnan's Pack of Drool Dogs. The Volunteer Army has owned the K-9s of late, while the Red Clay Hounds think it's about time to sink their teeth into the Big Orange Rifle Brigade. The Knoxville Army is angry after last week, but the Athens Dawgs will get the job done. Leonard's Loser? Tennessee"

At the height of its popularity, Leonard's Losers was carried on over 1400 radio stations, including Armed Forces Radio. Postero also published a weekly newsletter called Leonard's Losers.[1]

Postero retired in 1999 and a group of Athens businessmen purchased the show.[1] As part of the transition, the new voice of Leonard Postosties was introduced as Leonard's nephew though there was no relation between the two.

After the 2005 season, a message appeared on the website saying that due to personal reasons Leonard was unable to make his predictions and hoped to return. This message remained on the website until 2007 when the website closed.

Leonard Postero was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 19, 2013 as a legacy inductee for his show Leonard's Losers.[2]

Youtube has at least one recording of 9+ minutes. There might be more. I think there must be a way to record it off YouTube:

Here is a link to more on YouTube:

Looks like you found the same thing I found. Great show, and sorry I couldn't help you more. Good luck with the search, though. I lost my dad two years ago when he was 86. I wish I had thought about doing what you are doing before he passed away. You're a good son.

Why not just hook up his TV to Roku?

My Dad is well into his 80s and he loves that stuff, the old stuff on YouTube.

I used to utilize the old Leonard's Loser publication during my parlay card days. It was a good reference for who the home teams were and it had all the teams schedules and results. He was funny how he wrote his predictions also, it made for a good little read.

I worked in radio in the Auburn area in my college days, and it was my job to dub LL off of the Alabama Radio Network feed onto a cart for playback on Saturday mornings. As mentioned before, there was no analysis of the teams' strengths and weaknesses, just a fe puns and a prediction. But he was a decent prognosticator - as I recall he was 100% on AU'S 1982 season, including what was then considered an upset of UT.

Even more obscure - we briefly aired another comic prognostication show, with more elaborate voices, sound effects and gags, including mock interviews - but I can't remember the name of it. Anyone else remember it? Mid-80s era...
