Saban and the players handling this, well, just like you'd expect.

"Every player has a right to express what he feels and what he thinks," Saban said. "... But, look, this is probably a lot more important to people outside the organization than inside."
Whoa...what was it that was posted about Jalen supposedly violating "team rules"?
"Players told reporters on Tuesday that they met as a group to talk about Hurts' comments. Veteran offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher said the meeting brought "closure" to the situation, while senior running back Damien Harris said it wasn't "a big deal in-house."

You mean, like this?
"Jalen acted like an entitled pussy, and told the coaches he was done. He doesn't care about this shite anymore, and he's only staying so he can graduate. He's a cancer to the whole team."

Good that it was handled internally. Remember though, it wasn't entirely just Jalen's comments. It was his comments vs Tua's comments. One sounded committed to the team, the other sounded distracted. It then created enough of a distraction that the players had to have a meeting about it. Let's just be glad it is over and hope Jalen has no problems with his role, there may come a time this season where we need him to step up.

This was probably the most comical:
"Prevatt you're realllllly missing it here, and so is anyone else who doesn't think this is MAJOR CODE RED.
This program is a tight ship. Period. No player has ever gone off the rails and pulled a media stunt like this since Saban's been here.
Jalen is a man who's lost it all, and feels bitter. He's diverged from the doctrine of this program and is going rogue. I want him to get the frick out of Tuscaloosa before this season starts. This kind of thing has the potential to sow dissent amongst the team. Get him the frick out of here, and you can bet Saban feels the same way. Saban absolutely hates this kind of attention-seeking bullshite, and Jalen knows it - he just doesn't care."

Exactly.
Lol they were talking about how this would hurt the team and what damage control and punishment should be levied out.

Folks want drama. I doubt the players and coaches have as much down time to make a big deal of it.

More impressed that the team had a meeting over it to make sure their mindset is right.

Reminds me of the WH visit. No matter how much people on the outside want to create drama, this team just doesn't take the bait.

I'll admit that I thought this was going to be a much bigger deal, and it still might be depending on Jalen's attitude going forward.
A few points:
- The media today went baby soft on Saban. They're so intimidated by him. Cecil turned down his follow up question just because Saban said, "I don't have anything else to say about it." I think this is a positive thing for the program, but I really thought the media would try to create drama over this. If I were a reporter, I would've asked, "Jalen called out the coaching staff for not being bold enough to talk to him. What are your thoughts on that, as well as Jalen drawing attention to himself?"
They let Saban get away with hardly addressing it at all.
- Saban said players have the right to express themselves TO THE COACHING STAFF. He never endorsed what Jalen did.
- Saban was concerned enough about it to ask the team leaders if it had a negative effect on the team.
- Saban is going so soft on Jalen it's absurd. This is getting to the point where I think he might actually insist on Jalen splitting time with Tua at QB just because he doesn't want to upset him

Yeah, except there wasn't a player who spoke out to the media about how he wasn't going to the White House because he hated Trump.
This wasn't drama created by the media. This was drama created by Hurts, and now that players are apparently allowed to express themselves freely to the media and get things off their chest, expect a lot more media drama in the future.

I doubt Saban lets that happen again or at least makes sure the players don’t do this. This is only one instance after all.

Wrong. This all started with drama caused by Jalen's dad, the media and a segment of fans (like you) speculating ad nauseum about Tua vs Jalen, including drawing conclusions that Tua or Jalen would likely transfer if they didn't win the starting QB job. Jalen finally got to speak to the media about the situation all of that bullshite has created for him. I sort of wish he had ripped into the media and fans (like you) that deserve it.

You see a lot of lame face saving efforts on this board, especially by twenty-something year old kids, but this one takes the gold medal. Congrats.

This. His father's BS. Constant media speculation about a transfer that he didn't intend to make. Derogatory talk from fans about a kid who has been nothing but a perfect representation of the character we should expect in a football player and a UA student. Even after he was benched in the biggest game of his life.
He knows he lost his job. He didn't deserve any of that shite from the fans, the media, and especially his father.

Sure, but in his mind it was the fault of the coaching staff. That's who he ripped into.

What about the coaching staff? In Jalen's mind they were the cause of all this. Keeping him hidden from the media, and never being bold enough to talk to him

What did y'all expect the team to say? It was obvious an issue or else they wouldn't have had a meeting about it. The team and Saban have down played the issue because it was handled in house like it should have but I promise you that nobody was happy about it and Saban was probably pissed even if he understood Jalen's frustration. Don't be naive.

I've been fairly middle-of-the-road on this topic, mainly because I just don't really care.
But, just like the fans that overreact and think it was going to cause a huge problem and/or get Jalen booted, the other extremists are taking the bait now and acting like it was a complete non-issue. You can bet (just like every other time Saban speaks) the message he's getting out to the public isn't exactly what he said to the players. If you think he didn't have a serious talk with Hurts about how to handle his shite from now on, you're fooling yourself.
