6+1+3 Schedule Format For A 10-Game SEC Schedule

Here's how it would work:
Play six games within your division.
Play your cross-divisional rival.
Play three games against the opposite division, with teams rotating each year.
This would provide for a better competitive balance between divisions and reduce the current "luck of the draw" for cross-divisional opponents. All SEC teams would play each other every other year at minimum. Within a four-year cycle, teams would play at least one home game and one road game against every SEC team. This would also create greater interest from fans that currently rarely get to see cross-divisional teams at home.
The SEC could sell recruits on the fact that during their four years, they will get to travel to every SEC stadium and compete against every team at least once home and away. Currently teams only play cross-divisional teams with the exception of your rival, once every five years and only once at home every ten years.
Teams would still have two non-conference games to play whomever they choose.

I think 6+1+2 is perfect. Still leaves three non-conference games. Then, I'd like to see something like eliminating FCS competition. Or, if a team decides to play an FCS opponent, their other two non-conference games must be against P5 teams. I do think if the P5 conferences start eliminating games against FCS opponents you are going to see some of these programs struggle to survive. They depend on those game checks.
I also wouldn't be opposed to eliminating divisions altogether, protecting maybe three or four permanent opponents, then rotating the rest of the league.

If we do a 10 game SEC schedule, I say just get rid of divisions and take the top 2 to play in ATL

10 games is too many IMO. But I am in favor of a 9 game SEC schedule. If you rotate 2 cross-division teams, you're still at least playing everyone in the conference in 4 years, maybe not home and away but at least playing them period, which is fine with me.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of divisions and playing 9 Conference games.

I like 6+1+2 as well. Every team plays a P5 ooc. That leaves two practice games. I think the SEC Champ & the 2nd best team (think wildcard) should be in the playoffs yearly.

So Florida would play 10 SEC games and FSU every year. We wouldn’t get to play Miami or any other power 5 school ever. No thanks y’all can schedule 10 SEC games if you would like leave Florida out of it.

Yes, I like requiring one P5 ooc too.

10 conference games I don't think will happen for a very long time and it would probably require more expansion and realignment into mega-conferences.

6-1-2 is what should happen..

Its already difficult and this format would probably mean fewer SEC teams reaching the playoffs...no thanks.

I don't think it will ever happen either. It puts teams that play traditional in-state rivalry games against P5 teams every year at a huge disadvantage. SEC teams need the cupcake games not just for rent-a-wins but just some relief from the grind of playing SEC teams every week. It would only work if the schedule expanded to 13 total games, but 13 regular season games is too many IMO.

No divisions creats the need for tiebreakers.

Does the SEC really need to sell that?

The drawback is Georgia, SC, KY, & Fl. would only have 1 open slot since the other game is against their in state ACC rival.
