I remember having some animosity for muddbone and this kid back when we got "burnt" by him. In hindsight, though, he wouldn't have been any better off coming to play for Bert, and I don't blame him for not coming.
Probably one of the most frustrating parts of the Bert era were how many bigtime players we seemed to be in the running for but who, on signing day, picked a different hat. Maybe it's always been like that and recruiting is just more hyped than before, but I never remember feeling so burnt so many time during signing day as I did under the Bert era. I think it's because they were trying to "outkick their coverage" with recruiting and go after people who they didn't actually have a realistic chance of landing.

we had signing day surprises in the past both good and bad. the difference I saw was in the backup plan. petrino would pull a diamond in the rough project out. bielema just wouldn't recruit that position for a year. ..

Its too bad for the kid.
That having been said the NCAA is sending a message that trying to cheat on these sorts of tests is not going to be tolerated. He tried to cheat, he got caught. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
He'll have a season or two to prove what he can do on the field and if he's good enough the NFL will still knock on his door.

Well he wrote (writes) so stupidly that it was easy to feel that way.

Some of the things "Keith" wrote on the Tigerrant about Arkansas, the fans, etc. was beneath what a father should do publicly in these situations.
I don't like the NCAA in how it determines so many things, and I hate that the kid is suffering this much for a boneheaded decision, however... Perhaps "Mudbone" will consider how he acts, reacts when it concerns his family and their future. Although no real correlation can be found between this idiocy and the testing, sometimes life has a way of Karma.

Yeah, I mean he tried to cheat a drug test... perhaps the most interesting part though is that lsu clearly doesn't test for marijuana anymore based on that article...he used the fake pee for that purpose and admitted as much.

This. Signing day (SIGNING DAY) backup plans like Javontee Herndon and Darius Philon ended up being really good players for us.
ETA: Oinky would even admit it in public statements such as his introductory press conference where he intimated that his recruiting time was so valuable that it could only be used on certain recruits.

Lol.
Their lawsuit is bound to fail. Contending it on 3-grounds.
#1: Absence of due process in the drug-testing appeals structure.
(Playing football is not a constitutional right. The NCAA is not the "State". What due process they decide to have can't be regulated by the courts.)
#2: The lack of drug-testing education given to Fulton.
(Retarded argument. They didn't teach the athlete enough about the system to persuade him not to attempt to game the system with someone elses piss.)
#3: Presenting new evidence that calls into question the credibility of the drug-testing procedure.
(This is just grasping for anything. Their drug testing and compliance people do this for a living. It's their job.)
#4: My own personal opinion.
STOP DOING DRUGS DUMBASS.....
