For you golf fans who aren't able to watch so far:
THIS IS A FREAKING BLOODBATH
And it may be the easiest day of the tournament.
I'm entertained.

I love the US Open setup. It requires the most skill of any of the majors. Low scores indicates a non test for the pros.

Cool and wet this morning, but the pins are still brutal.
If the clouds clear off it could be a decent afternoon for scores.
The cut should be 10-12 over

Eh, I'd say it's more a mental test than a skill test. Sure, you have to be on your game, but it's more about taking your medicine and putting bad holes behind you. Everyone is going to have a bad hole here and there. The winner is usually the one that can put those behind him and grind out pars.
Just look at a lot of the past winners. Many of them aren't who we'd call especially skilled golfers. For many, it's their only major win.

And that's why I like the U.S. Open. It is probably the least predictable of the 3 U.S. majors (the British Open being the least predictable overall).

When I was growing up there were guys who made their careers as US Open specialist. Kinda like clay courters in tennis.
Andy North, Scott Simpson, Steve Jones, Lee Janzen. I don't know if Hale Irwin contended for many majors, but he was a US Open threat

The USGA is taking a lot of heat for yesterday, and deservedly so.

The course yesterday was ridiculous...more luck than skill..not what the USGA officials wanted.

It is embarrassing what they have done the last two times this course has hosted this tournament. I wish the PGA would hold the Championship there one year so we could see what a competent set up looked like at the course.

The guy currently tied for second shot a 7 under. I don't want to hear shite about how bad the setup is and how unfair it is to the golfers.

Cool story. Thanks for pulling your finger out of your arse long enough to share your knowledge.

The USGA is a joke; I cancelled my membership over 10 yrs ago and won't ever rejoin.

Saturday afternoon was pretty bad. It wasn't even very entertaining to watch. The USGA guy at least admitted as much in the post round interview.
I thought they somewhat redeemed themselves yesterday. Birdies were out there, while also being a really challenging set up. Still, the winner was the guy that could grind out pars.

In the end, it's pitiful that the USGA screwed up another US Open. Shinnecock Hills is a great test of golf. It didn't need to be tricked up and tested.
Yesterday, even after they softened the course it was a stern test, in the afternoon. Poor shots were punished. Great shots were rewarded.
They should have narrowed the fairways and left the greens alone, imo
