Good chance I'll find out if I am moving to Oregon today. I've been consulting there the past 4 months. It's really beautiful, reminds me of home (Appalachians).

People are different and a lot of snowflakes, but it sure as hell beats the desert lifestyle.

So, anybody that posts on the OT live/ever have lived in Oregon? Is that where Bigfoot really lives?

Yes, Sasquatch can be found midway up Mt Hood.

The hipsters congregate in Portland and Eugene, and will vacation on the coast and as east as Bend. The rest of the state has pretty typical ag types of folks. Don't go to the eastern reaches if you like to see the color green. Brown is all you get.

Former neighbor's son moved to Oregon about ten years ago.
He and his wife love it, and last time he was home he told me he was where he belonged.

He was and still is a long haired hippie freak.

I’m assuming, with this statement, you’re an obese and bald conservative still rotting in the south?

I know a lot of people that live there. I almost did before settling where I am now. I may make the eventual move, depending on employment.

But Oregon’s landscape is not what most people think. You have the cascades that absorb most of the larger cities on the west side but for the most part Oregon is high desert.

I was in Mitchell a couple weeks ago and it is very different than western Oregon. Much like an old west kinda vibe you see in Arizona.

I would be moving to Grants Pass most likely. Work is in Selma.

Medford is the closest "big town".

But hey, it beats Phoenix/Tucson any day

What is in Selma? A Ranger Station?

Southwest is not a bad part of the state. Couple hours from Eugene to get your football fix, decent hiking, Rogue River. Had a few friends who went to school in Klamath Falls, so spent a few days in that area. Sorry, I can't tell you much more than that. I am closer to the northeast portion of the state.

GP is a nice area. Lots of outdoor activities. There are a lot of old people there though.

my old man spent a few years out there for seminary. always spoke well of it. his 2nd masters was done in chicago, he always said those winters sucked arse compared to portland.

had a friend who lived in the oregon emerald triangle... she loved it. actually damn near had me convinced to pull the trigger to move that way. she was a veterinarian who enjoyed the labors of our line of work. after 7-8 years she got a better job offer working in so cal, so she moved.

obviously we've discussed some of these states... but oregon is the 1 i definitely know is cool with people who have a background like mine hysterically i missed the peru trip i was telling you about. unfortunately it's because i wrecked both knees in colorado, otherwise i'd be in the exact same position of looking really hard at that area. as soon as i can walk again without pain it's going right back up at the top of my list.

I have a friend from HS that was went to UO on an athletic scholarship and is now a personal trainer in Portland. Seems like a cool place, but the locals seem a little off in the head (for different reasons than most would say regarding Oregon)

Heck yeah, best of luck man. I'll send some smoke signals through the normal means soon. Super excited at the possibility of seeing the insides of another mega grow. Speaking of pics, i feel i've seen a dog a few times. Like i previously mentioned in this thread, my friend who recently moved from that area was a vet. I'll hit her up and see who she recommends locally.
