No one in their right mind would give someone a contract extension and a raise for the performance of the last several years. I understand this is a competitive business and the SEC West is tough, but are we really getting our moneys worth? I would have let him walk during the negotiations. That is an insane amount of money for mediocrity and if we completely bomb the next few years, we’re stuck with him. I hope I’m wrong, but I fear that the next few years we’ll be going 8-5 and 7-6 again and everyone on here will be calling for his firing again but the buyout will be too much.

I mean we could cut it in half, but then you're going to end up with someone like Orgeron.

The buyout may be large, but transaction law 101, you don’t agree to a buy out that you can’t afford when you hold the purse strings. It may seem unconscionable to us normal folk, but AU can pay that buyout without blinking if need be.

Im sure someone covered this, but I think you are making the decision for the exension seem like it was done in a vacuum. I agree that he’s probably not worth what he’s going to be paid, but with the insane amount of jobs open last year and lack of enough quality candidates, I don’t think we could have afforded to let him walk. It would have been seen as basically firing him after the season we just had and trying to hire a coach with a lame duck AD and new President. It would’ve ended up like UT.
