re: These Gators were pretty critical of the UF spring game and the coaching staff....

I’m not sure you really can take much out any of it except 1on 1on’s. We drafted teams apparently so it watered down both sides especially on the Oline. Defense should be decent, offense is a major work in progress. At this point I hope we go with Emory and just take our lumps. Trask nor Franks are game changers and they probably never will be, even with Dan coaching them.

Eh, Trask did what he could with a patchwork offensive line going against some of the best guys from the defensive line and he did well enough. I think he'll start for us, and I think he'll be more than serviceable, at least more than the past few years.
The problem isn't so much just the offensive line, the WRs were split up, too. Jefferson, Grimes, Toney and Cleveland lining up together is a lot different than Hammond and Swain getting time of the field (although Hammond looked better).
Bottom line: We don't know jack dick nothing after this Spring Game.
What a mess.

Looks a lot like 3rd and long with Grantham.
Practice makes perfect.

At least not knowing what the hell we have is better than knowing we're complete garbage, which is still possible.

Defense is fine, much better than the offense. They were specifically told not to play hard and honestly, all the "points scored", few were actual touchdowns.
The majority came from the 3rd and 4th string, but the defense looks much better.

I thought UF looked better than they did at any time last year. The gimmicks with former players looked dumb, though.

As you predicted. F. Franks looking to take that huge step forward. Good call.

Meanwhile @ FSU Taggart is pulling in 4*s left and right with vanilla ice and ice cream. I was told repeatedly that Taggart was a bum and Mullen was a great hire. It looks like the exact opposite right now. Of course those same gator fans said Kirby is WM 2.0. As for the team Just start Emory. I'd rather go 6-6 with him learning on the job more than 6-6 with Trask or Franks. Jake Allen has seen more action cleaning pools than he will playing AN. We need to add burrow for depth Just in case someone transfers or gets hurt.

Have no fear, jury is still out until at least year 3. If Mullen does good in year 1 or 2, its only because of the expert coaching and development from the previous staff.

Next years schedule is going to be brutal. Your sarcasm is note. I'd be shocked if we won more than 6-7 games these next 2 years. Hevesy sucks imo. We need an elite OL coach and recruiter like Sam Pittman(I'm jealous).

Kid's saying McElwain and Richt are comparable. Taking over a 10 win average team recruiting top ten classes over the span of five years does leave some question marks -- such as talent turnover, how one deals with losing the vast majority of the starters recruited, trained and processed by the previous staff.
You continue to say this as if every coach's third year isn't their most important long term, and you continue to just look aspie.

McElwain destroyed Richt head to head and won the east over Richt.
What does that tell you about the job Richt was doing in regards to player training and development?

TJ, what were your thoughts on some of the playcalls yesterday, specifically when 2 former players snuck onto the field to catch TDs?
I guess Mullen was trying to promote a "family" type of atmosphere with the fans and alum, but it seemed odd to me. Even for a scrimmage, I've never seen a game deliberately interrupted like that for the sake of having fun.

I've posted multiple times the draft picks Mac "had" compared to Richt those last few years. Richt didn't have many top picks. Now at UM he's recruiting better than he did at UGA. Imo they'll contend for the ACC as long as rosier is healthy. He's a pretty good QB. Mullen needs an elite staff like Meyer has to contend here IMO. He's an average coach and recruiter and needs all the help he can get.

McElwain was also 1 - 1 against Kirby, but he did it with a maturing Muschamp defense.
Say, what happened after that defense got cycled out? How was McElwain's third year? How was Muschamp's third year? How was Zook's third year?
You take my criticisms of Kirby like I'm kicking your dog every time I say something bad when all I'm saying is Kirby has only ever coached for two years, had one good year and one really, really mediocre year where he lost to two teams that Georgia regularly outrecruits.
Could he be the next Saban? It's possible. Could he be another Muschamp? Also possible, we have no idea what the team will look like after it cycles out a large majority of its starters. Could he continue Richt's tradition? Also very possible.
Jury's still out, no matter how much you bawl.

He certainly looked better. Didn't he throw like 5 INT's in his first spring game? From what Gator fans are saying though, Trask may end up as the starter which could make me look like an idiot.
Oh well....

Try to stay on topic. The question pertains to the job Richt was doing with the development of his recruits. Do you think he was doing a good job of that based on the results of the team?

Wait, are you implying Richt wasnt doing a very good job of player development? What a crazy thought.

It's okay to walk away from worthless arguments on a message board. You don't have to keep going.

He threw three interceptions and fumbled once.
His last game before the end of the season against FSU.
He threw three interceptions and fumbled once (for a combined 24 points).
I said on the Florida board that there, really, are only two explanations: He knows he sucks but hasn't tried to improve, or he knows he sucks and did try to improve.
Neither are very good outcomes for him, and I don't think he'll end his career at Florida.
