Meyer’s heart couldn’t handle that regimen.

I rarely say this about opposing fans, but anyone hating on SOS is just fricking jealous.

Dude won a Heisman, got to coach his alma mater, skullfricked the SEC for a decade, resurrected a dead program during his semi-retirement, and has spent the last 5 years crushing a sixer of Coors Light and 18 holes every day. He is living the fricking dream.

Call me crazy but I would choose Steve's career path 100 times out of 100 over a buzzkill megalomaniac like Saban, even if it meant a fraction of the success and accolades.

Exactly. When he is on his game I'd take him over Saban any day of the week

Judging by your comma game I’d say it’s a classic case of “takes one to know one”

Look, Spurrier as an all-time great coach whose career compares favorably to pretty much every coach he competed against. Saying you'd take him over Saban is fricking retarded

He's most remembered for quitting midseason.

That is not a visor - it's an official Ralph Macchio-signed Karate Kid Tenugui headband. He's got 3 of them.....

Ha, Spurrier is one of my favs -- definitely one of the greats, in my opinion. And I don't fault him for retiring mid-season at USC. When you know something has run its course, and you are no longer effective, why prolong the inevitable? It's not like he quit amidst a national title run. He got out of the way, and for someone like Spurrier who is prideful, leaving like that was not the easy way out.

Good on him, he looks like he's living his best life. We should all be so lucky.

Not disagreeing with your overall post, but this is exactly what he did. He just recognized it midseason. Believe he said he should have done it after the Miami bowl game in 2014 but wanted to give it one last try.
