Most important things for the 2018-19 season for Alabama Basketball

(1) Petty develops consistency and some sort of a drive game. We will badly need him to be a much more consistent scorer, and a guy who does more than just catch and shoot.
(2) Donta' Hall develops a pick and pop 15 footer that is good enough to at least have to be respected by opponents. This will be even bigger with a non-lottery pick PG.
(3) We get improvement from our slashing, long forwards - Herb Jones, Dazon Ingram, Tevin Mack. Would be great for Tevin to come out and give us the 14 PPG/39% 3 PT/109.1 Offensive Rating he had his sophomore year at Texas. Really need Herb to become more comfortable and more confident in his slash and finish game.
(4) Point guard
(5) A transfer market sharpshooter
Assuming everyone returns we will be a very good defensive team. Our question marks will obviously be on the offensive end with shooters and ball scorers with Collin gone. If Petty/Mack can be consistent outside threats and we can add a 40% 3P 2-guard type, that would really ease the load on whoever runs the point. It would also open things up on the interior for Galin and Donta'.
Will really be an interesting offseason. Like I said right after the 'Nova game, I feel like the variances for possible outcomes next year is incredibly wide. Anywhere from no improvement and a 17-15 NIT type season to a 21-10 #6/7 seed type team.
Thoughts?

Love him or hate him, tourney win means Avery's our guy for the foreseeable future. Deal with it.

Ok..........what does that have to do with any of the items mentioned in my post?

I agree with all of this. We definitely need a sharpshooter grad transfer to come in. I would absolutely love that

Petty's a volume shooter, so we may see more of the same when it comes to hot/cold shooting nights. But if he can learn to control the ball more and get lower, he can really improve his stock.
On that point, I think it's really important for the entire team to spend the off-season getting better ball handling skills. We finished 217st in turnover margin, and I'd bet half of those were just guys not being able to beat their man one-on-one, leading to a frantic offensive possession.

We'd need someone to leave to bring in a transfer

Can’t agree enough. Sexton and Junior were the only guys we had that could handle the basketball. Ingram is a 6/10 dribbler, so not terrible but not great. John Petty is one of the worst dribbling guards I’ve seen in my entire life. He should spend the entire offseason working on that and that alone. It was painful to watch him try to beat someone off the dribble
We’ve seen guys improve in that regard. Retin Obasahon wasn’t a very good basketball player when he got to Alabama and he would’ve been a huge impact on this team.
Outside of guys learning how to dribble, Avery needs to install an offensive system and teach it. Having that in place with improved ball handling will make the shots guys are taking a lot easier.

Agree with all of those points, but I'll add one thing (that includes a couple of your things
) that I think is the most important: our shooters shoot like they're capable of. Tevin Mack was a good shooter last year. We need him to do that here. Petty has shown he can be a god-level 3-pt shooter, we need him to show that more consistently. Reese and Jones were considered very good shooters in HS. Would be nice if Reese could show it consistently and Herb could show it period. Norris is the king of being on the mark but missing. It'd be nice if he could get more to fall. Butler has been a very good three point shooter from the PG position in HS. If we can just get half of our "shooters" to shoot like they are capable, I believe we have top 25 potential.

That doesn't sound too far fetched

We ll have depth down low and across the roster. Need ball handling and more motion but I saw things against VA tech that were beautiful...Such as passing by the bigs vs the zone . We also need to be more uptempo , we get alot out of the lob play. Would like to see us run as soon as we get a defensive board. I think we re capable of a top 4-5 NCAA seed next yr.

Free throws summer. Practice them. With Sexton leaving and all.

This is the most important thing that needs to happen this offseason. He needs to be what he was projected to be as a recruit for us to have a lot of success

4. A point guard
We desperately need someone who can distribute the ball well. We don't have to replace Sextons production with one guy but we have to have a great ball handler that can load up in assists.

This one isn't necessary for us to have a good season but it is necessary for us to make a tourney run. When we play a team like nova that's hot from the arc we've got to be able to combat that with our own 3s.

I have to agree with all of that. I will add this, if Reese loses 20lbs of fat and puts on 5lbs of muscle it would be a tremendous boost to his game as well.

Yea, I'm really excited about Reese and Galin.
This freshman class has a lot of reasons for excitement, even with the headliner already done and gone.

Don't think it'll happen. We'll be at maximum scholarship if Armond Davis and one more player leave. WE would need Gidden or someone else to leave to create one spot, otherwise we'll be full.

Who would you pick to go along with Sexton, Riley, and Armond? As in who do you want to go?

Agree with all your points. I'll add ball handling and free throws, free throws, free throws. These guys need to be making 100 free throws a day every day of the off season.
I'll also add for Avery, he needs to look around for a better offensive game plan. Just look around college ball at some of the offenses that are being run and pick it and learn it. Our half court offense was so predictable

I wouldn't pick anyone to go but it wouldn't shock me to see Key leave. Especially with our glut of 6-6 to 6-8 wing/2 guard types (Herb, Mack, Ingram, Petty). We'll find out but after status meetings it wouldn't shock me to start hearing his name associated with a transfer of Avery basically tells him he's looking at being a small role player.
But that's just a guess, he may love it here and want to come back and work his arse off.

Seems reasonable to me.
Those points are going to make/break Bama next year

I don't think that's how Avery sees him. He was a starter during the tournament. And frankly, although I've been critical of Key, starting early last year, I think he can be a solid role player. The main thing about him that drives me crazy is some of his inexplicably bad passes/turnovers. Sometimes he needs to slow down and see where he's throwing the ball.
