I’ll be leaving the Marine Corps in April after five years and LSU did not attempt to work with me since my high school grades weren’t the best and I didn’t have enough transfer credits to meet the requirements. Maybe I just talked to the wrong person but it didn’t work out. Tennessee has been exceptional during this entire process and honestly just wanted to share my excitement with others. I’ll be starting in the fall. 23 year old freshman!

Also I really need to charge my phone

Happy for you. You're getting here just in time to use all of the new student union facilities, new dorms going in, and the exploding downtown area. You'll love East TN and Knoxville. I will never leave.

Congrats. You'll have to realize we don't serve crayons for breakfast, lunch and dinner though.
There is a small ANG base with a small exchange just down the road near the airport. There are a lot of former Marines in that unit too if that's something you want to pursue. Lots more education benefits to be had there if you're a member of the TN national guard. Pm me for details if you wish. I'm AD and stationed there, retire this year w/26 yrs.
Welcome to East Tennessee!

Edited for spelling. Can't let a Marine correct my AF grammar.

Congrats, dude. The ladies in the Veterans Affairs/Fin aid office are fricking awesome...assuming they're still there. UT really does a good job supporting veterans.

Jmo but you prob won't be able to afford downtown on your BAH. I lived in Old North/4th and Gill and that was perfect. Quiet, but close to downtown when you want to get fricked up. Some affordable places there...just have to keep looking.

Life is about adventure and experiences. The fact that you are headed to Tennessee means you are supposed to be going to Tennessee.

I did my UG at LSU, my second degree at DLI (USAF) and my doctorate in SC. Born and raised in BR and lifelong LSU fan. But the best school memories I have are away from “back home”.

Enjoy!

Gratz! Welcome! And as a Navy Vet thank you for your service!

I got accepted but with my father in the Army and in MO the out of state tuition was too much so I went to Mizzou for a year, ended up dropping out then finishing my degree with the U of Maryland while in the Navy. We all have strange paths.

Hey Fiddlehead,

I was sifting through old threads and found this one. I'm a current student as well. Been here since 2015. How are you liking UT?
