Whats with the insecurity of Clemson football fans?

I guess my 1st mistake was reading some topics over at tigernet, but damn, there are no less than 6 individual threads about UGA and how much better they are at football than us. And that is just today. It's a daily thing to post crap about UGA over there.
When did Clemson become a 'rival' to UGA? I could give a crap less about their program. Their level of envy of us is off the charts.

It's not just clemson, it's everybody in the southeast. Did you ever notice that kind of thing 4 or 5 years ago? Nope. What's different now than it was then? Well that's obvious and everyone can see it. It's fear, plain and simple. People realize what we're becoming and they're terrified of it so they go out of their way to disparge us because they know the time for doing that is drawing to a close, very quickly. Also doesn't help that we have a 42-18 win advantage over them all time.

We've played them quite a bit (more than most would realize) but in the late 70s/80s it really turned into a rivalry. Not playing yearly anymore quelled that but for a time I'd imagine a bunch of uga fans would tell you clemson was our most hated opponent.

Yeah, I guess I probably knew that at some point but had forgotten it.
I also thinks its a mixture of infatuation and fear. I enjoy reading other forums posts. You get some pretty good insight to what each fanbase is thinking. But the fans over on tigernet are just a rotten bunch.

They have SEC jealousy syndrome. They want in so bad. They think of themselves as big boys and they want to sit at the big boy table. It burns their arse that SC gets to sit and they don’t. It’s a complex they have.

Hell, if it wasn't for the easy win, there are some times I'd sooner play Clemson than GT, just for the parity.

I hate Clemson more than I do South Carolina and maybe Tennessee. There are right up there with our biggest rivals for hate. Its the fanbase more than anything.

Bruh, I'mma nearing my mid 60's but some of the best CFB games UGA has played over the years we're vs Clem high before the SEC went to 12 teams in '92.
We've only played 6 SEC teams and Gt more than we've played CU and most of our SCe games we're OOC too...

There was not a more hated team on our schedule in the 80's.It was arguably the premier CFB rivalry in that decade.
I'd put it up there with the Iron Bowl,OSU_UM and WLOCP

1986 Clemson was the first really good team I saw us play live. Before then it was mostly scrubs : Richmond VMI Cal State Ful Etc etc. Seems like the Clemson rivalry was on par with the Gators and Nerds back in the day.
