That's not an ideal way to function.
No, it's not, and I'm sure Saban hated being in that position.
CNS led us to that position by trying to protect Hurts.

You can't be one dimensional and win against good teams.
You just said the running game and defense won us the national championship in 2009 -- the last team to go undefeated and win it, incidentally.
Personally, I wish Tua had become the starter earlier in the year, myself. But based on Saban's evaluations, Tua wasn't the better option during the season.
Our defense wasn't decimated by injuries in 2009.

Boz, come on man. What are you talking about.
If we play Hurts in the second half we lose probably on the order of 30-0. Or worse.
What “risks” in playing Tua are you speaking of?

Such a bull shite excuse. Saban preaches "Do your job".
QB's job is to get the ball to the receivers where they can catch it in stride. Who did a better job this year, the receivers or Hurts?
Receivers knew the real QB was on the bench.

WHO frickING CARES ANYMORE?????? WE WON THE frickING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF ONE OF THE GREATEST RUN IN COLLEGE SPORTS IF NOT IN ALL SPORTS OF ALL TIME!!! I WAS WRONG. I THOUGHT JALEN WOULD WIN IT. HE DIDN'T. I'M GLAD WE HAVE TUA. JESUS CHRIST. IT'S LIKE I'M PLAYING CARDS WITH MY BROTHER'S KIDS. YOU NERVE RACKING SONS OF BITCHES.

I'm not sure which post you are replying to however, if you look at this from Saban's standpoint and his history of QB selection it's not hard to understand why he made his decisions the way he did. I am trying to help you guys understand that. I think Tua is the better QB but Jalen had more experience and was less turnover prone this year. It just is what it is.

It's a discussion board.
It matters because the same two QB's will be here in 2018.

For some reason it didn't put my post. I was saying wasn't it only Hightower out for the season that year?

CNS's stubbornness just about bit us in the rear. He's not perfect, none of us are.

I actually agree. I think the Auburn game was a good time to bring Tua in. Clemson was such a 1 sided affair we thought we could get away with it against UGA with run run run, play D.

You're right. It is a discussion board. But the discussion that is going on will never end. One side thinks that Tua should have played all year and that being 13-1 and national champs isn't good enough. The other side thinks that Jalen deserved to start and play until Saban pulled him. Neither side will give ground.

He got hurt vs Ark., 4th game of the year.
Don't remember that many other injuries. 2010 there were a bunch.

Weak.
Let's take a look at what's transpired so far...
You: Saban was going to go with the older QB regardless
Me: Funny you say that a year after a true freshman beat out a junior.
You (Backpedal Attempt 1): What junior dual-threat QB did he beat out?
Me: Where did dual-threat come from? Regardless, Cooper Bateman ran a 4.59 and was more than capable of being a dual-threat
You (Backpedal attempt 2): He soft though
Me: I give up, enjoy your backpedaling

I'm fine with 13-1 and the natty.

Maybe Saban wanted to show the players that he has their back until he just possibly can't. As a player that would mean a lot to me. But by playing the freshman he also showed that he will play the best player regardless of age. That looks good to recruits.

Seeing McClain and Hightower on the field at the same time was a thing of beauty.

That was incredible to watch. McClain was an absolute monster and the best defensive QB I've ever seen at the college level. Sad to see his career at the next level destroyed by bad decisions.

I still think he was the best LB of the Saban era.

It was obviously wearing on the receivers knowing Tua was riding the pine when Hurts was struggling. Several started to show it by their reactions on the field during the games.
I believe it took a toll on the minds of the defensive players as well, and most likely on the entire team.
