5 years ago today we beat OU in the Cotton Bowl 41-13.

This was the last time A&M won a football game that was actually worth being proud of.

There were a few like UCLA and Tennessee in 2016 that seemed great at the time, but by the end of the year they didn't mean much.

It won't happen, but if we somehow beat Clemson at home this year, it would fast track the turnaround in a big way.

Auburn? They didn’t finish well but they were #2.

Dude...that game was pure 100% luck. We did not deserve to win that game at all. They made so many mistakes. Including the botched snap at the end that sealed the deal for us. I do not consider that a good win. I was happy we did win, but it wasn't because we deserved it.

TLDR: We didn't win that game. Auburn lost that game.

And another thing, I don't get excited about free wins. Kyle Field East is a free win.

Personally I felt good after that top five recruiting class.

I feel good when I leave the grocery store and my receipt says I saved $30. But when I forget to eat all the stuff I bought and throw half of it away, I realize it was all for nothing.

For sure. I obviously don’t think we will win but the atmosphere for that one should be insane

Saw a quote the other day about how if we had known the high point of sumlin’s tenure was the 2013 cotton bowl, how sad it would be....

But I slightly disagree about winning a game to be proud of, we did beat some teams with winning records at the end of the season and the #2 auburn win was a good one.

Anyways, it still blows my mind that some people didn’t want to fire sumlin, even after this year. After the 2015 season I started thinking about it, after 2016 I was sure it needed to be done, after 2017 I was gonna be pissed if it didn’t happen.

Luck and Auburn mistakes. Yeah. It really was. And what did we have to show for it in 2014? Nothing.

Nope.

I'm not saying Auburn played their best game, but you can't turn around and tell me that beating #2 on the road was 100% luck. That's revisionist logic at its best.

Auburn made countless mistakes throughout that game. We didn't win. They lost.

It was a game to be happy about.

But it wasn't a game to be proud of.

We didn't exactly play a perfect game either, lest you forget. Better than our usual, obviously, but football is a game of mistakes and both teams made their share. Auburn's last being at a crucial juncture.

We walked into their house as the underdog and beat them when they had everything to play for as the #2 team in the country.

it wasn't a game to be proud of.

If you can't be proud of a top 5 (top 2!) road win under ANY circumstances, then you need help

Sumlin's eventual departure aside, that win was a huge feather in his cap. Indubitably a win to be proud of.

To put it in perspective, I’d forgotten the road win over #2 Auburn. I remembered it when it was mentioned, but it’s not something I carry in my head.

I’ll never forget humiliating OU in the Cotton Bowl. Never. The image of Mike Evans bouncing that OU player’s head off the turf will be forever imbedded in my memory. I probably visualize it once a week and have to add a deposit to my jar.

It’s definitely subjective, but for this LONG time Aggie football fan and former student, those two wins aren’t even in the same universe.

Blindly accepting the outcome without looking at how you get there is a bad way to go about life.

You use this word way too fricking much because of Kawhi in that commercial.

Also, that Auburn game was a fluke. I was laughing about it that day. Nobody actually thought we had suddenly figured things out. It was a complete WTF win that we all knew meant nothing.
