We are losing a lot of players on the offensive line, but most Auburn fans aren't too worried about that since that unit sucked anyways. Honestly, shouldn't really be too much of a drop off. Players coming in next year will be less experienced but have a higher ceiling.

0-2 so far in the Benz... is U Dub gonna make it 0-3?
Based on the way Gus comes out of the gate to start the season, it's very likely.

You disagree that Auburn has recruited well?
Of course I'm sure you aren't a bit worried about the players you are losing, right?

Defensively replacing Matthews and Roberts will be a bigger deal IMO than Holland. Nobody knew Holland existed last year and he played well because he played with Davidson, Russell and Brown...Coe has come along and TD played well in spots. So did Cat in some small spots.
LB's are back minus T. Williams but he was hurt most of the season. IMO our run stopping was 10 times better with him playing vs McBride or Atkinson, but both played well and if they improve we shouldn't see much drop with D. Williams and DD returning.
That leaves the secondary. Losing Carlton will be huge, but we have Dean, Davis and Dinson who have all played well when healthy. It's just hard to replace a 1st day NFL corner. The safeties both played well and Matthews like T. Williams was huge in our run stopping. Peters has looked good all season and improved. We need some guys to step up at safety though.
On O if JS returns we will be fine. IMO the OL can't get worse. I know how important KJ has been but Gus has probably earned the benefit of the doubt on plug and play RB's. The WR's improved all year and we get them back.
Kicking will take a hit though. In close games on the road I suspect this will be a bigger issue than we realize. However, honestly DC had a tough year by his standards. He cost us in the SEC title game and in the Peach Bowl. He also missed other kicks this year you wouldn't have expected him to miss. His touchbacks were off IMO as well.

AU needs 3 things to be good. An experienced veteran offensive line, a good QB, and a good schedule. Stidham is a good QB and will probably be even better next year. But, they lose 3 senior starters on the OL and 2 senior backups if the link below is accurate. Playing Bama and UGA on the road makes the schedule difficult. Just spit balling here but I think they have another 8-4 type year. 2017 AU Depth Chart

At least we have little Carlson!

You can't always go by stats. The only team that had a lot of succcess running thr ball against our starters was Georgia in the SEC championship. Bama also picked up big chunks of yardage in 1 or 2 plays
A lot of teams rolled up stats after we built up big leads and took our starters out of the game

Front 7 will still be top 3 in the league but Steele needs to add something next year. Teams have schemed us a bit and Steele really didn't adjust at the end of the season. He needs to add some blitz packages and stunts next year. Kirby's A gap blitz adjustment against AU in SECCG game was the major reason they won that game and same for Rose bowl. AU will need some creativity.
Offensively, AU should be good again IF Stidham returns which he should with every WR back. AU is still in good shape on the OL even with significant losses due to solid recruiting. Development has been an issue but the scheme protects the OL for the most part.
I expect AU to be 9-3 but overall not as good a team as this year. Gus will need to let Stidham be Stidham and throw the ball a little more next year. Defensively, the safeties will need to be at least SEC average for the D to be great again.

Having older guys can sometimes be a detriment. They have experience but a talent limit. The younger guys on OL are way more talented than the guys we are losing expect Braden. I expect them to be better next year.
FYI...what you said is true of almost every football team at all levels.

Auburn will be fine. We've recruited at a high level for a long time. The biggest factor next year is the schedule.
Doesn't Auburn lose a good bit off the Oline?

Auburn started 7 or 8 different offensive lineman because of injuries. We still return 3 guys who played about half the season, and one of the new guys will likely be a 5 star offensive tackle that we redshirted last year

Yes, but after watching them against Clemson and UCF, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. I'd rather we lost our O-Line coach though.

Couldn't take full advantage of having Alabama and Georgia at home in 2017. Goes 10-4. Plays both on road in 2018. But gonna win it all!!!
You just know Gus will find another 1-2 games he shouldn't drop, but just does. Because.

Meanwhile, you should keep praying that bammers backdoor their way into more championships. Dumb luck has been the bammers most valuable commodity under shorty. Could seriously have zero championships without it

You realize bammer has played in the national championship game twice without even winning the western division
