No I’m just asking who you would be happy with.
Malzahn hired sec retread Kevin Steele last offseason and was crucified, how’d that turn out? Point is sometimes a change of scenery can help and even if his defenses are average that should be enough for a Morris offense (if his offense does work)

Morris is a risk because he doesn’t know the SEC, Chavis is because he’s been in it too long.

Even that is better than what we have been putting on the field.
Chavis is at least a veteran who knows what it is going to take to stop SEC offenses. Ill take average right now over what we have had outside of one season basically since Nutt's 2006 defense.

I guess it was a home run hire then. Sry for asking.

Just tell us who you would prefer, that’s what message boards are for

can either spin it as a home run or melt
home run is more appealing for something none of us can control imo

My position is we could’ve done way, way worse. if that makes me a bad fan with low expectations so be it but he’s a “name”, we desperately need that right now

I told you, I really dont know. Im not one who is familiar with NCAA Football Coaches.
I guess when Morris said, that he was going to hire the best guy, it wouldnt be Chavis. I also didnt expect Vennables.
I guess it is more of a dissapointment that we have waited so long, heard nothing, expected a home run hire and then ended up with Chavis.
Hopefully this clears up my frustration. Also, Im the one the other day that even said that its not up to us peons.

Yeah Morris could’ve oversold, that’s a legit gripe that I understand, I think it’s just his persona, he was fired up and trying to do the same to the fans. still think we have the potential to put together a strong defensive staff, I imagine Chavis’ name still carries some weight in the coaching community and we can bring in some solid position coaches

I hope so man. Again I know I didnt say all that at first, but I hope I explained myself better.
Posted on 12/28/17 at 5:05 pm to Latarian
Yeah he really shouldn't have said that
Posted on 12/28/17 at 5:08 pm to Porcine Human
Yeah I agree but what if he would’ve hired a popular name around here, Alex Grinch, what’s the reaction?

imo morris is better than miles and sumlin.
so if it's chavis, he would at least have a leg up in that regard

I don't think it comes down to a big name. I just think that I and others feel like it's not a smart hire.
Of course anything is better, but this will be his farewell tour. Hopefully I'm wrong and it pays off great.

best is relative. to some chavis might be considered the best.
morris has said he will hire nobody but the best. obviously his current offensive staff wouldn't be considered the best by many, but it's the idea that counts. so if he hires someone and their not up to his standards, they'll be gone with a quickness so we can get someone better.

I think a HC and DC with no SEC experience (I know Grinch was a position coach at Mizzou but not as a coordinator). would be a tougher sell than getting Chavis. Morris obviously has his reasons so we’ll see if it pays off, he knows his D is going to be under scrutiny from game 1 so he must be more confident with Chavis

The Chief knows the SEC, maybe he can get some aTm recruits.
Contrary to what CCM said, doubt he got the best. Huge upgrade to anything Bert brought to the hill.
Keep Chief around for 3 years and if we don't see major improvement, kick his arse to the curb.
FWIW, Vegetables wasn't leaving Clempson for Arkansas
