Not trying to make this a political discussion. Just observing that the write in votes in Alabama cost the Republican his seat. A friend down there said Nick Saban got most of the write in votes.
Is this true?
If so, add Senators to the coaches that have fallen to the Nick Saban effect.
PS, REC doin work in Alabama.

Yes it's true, and probably good that it is.

Actually I think being a pedophile, a racist, and having absolutely no knowledge of the Constitution despite being a judge his entire adult life cost Roy Moore.

Well he wasn't a Senator, the seat was vacated by Jeff Sessions.

^This, and the good people of Alabama rejected him despite support from President Trump. The state of Alabama made a giant step towards the middle of the political spectrum with this election. Good on Alabama.

Doubtful. Jones will lose in two years to an even average candidate with an R beside his name.

Don't count on it. This was purely a rejection of Roy Moore and nothing else IMO. Doug Jones will likely be beaten easily in a couple of years. All it'll take is a semi-sane Republican candidate.

Therein lies the middle of the political spectrum. Semi-sane Republicans and semi-sane Democrats can actually talk with each other and...wait for it...compromise.

I wish this would happen, but in Alabama all I meant by "semi-sane" is really anybody not named Roy Moore. A perfectly crazy far-right Republican without all the baggage will still beat Doug Jones any day of the week.

I have to agree with everything bigpapamac has said. As much as I would like to think otherwise, this win by the Dems was pretty much just about Moore being a nutjob. It's very likely Jones loses in the next election.

Yea people can make this election out to be whatever they want and try to fit it into any narrative they'd like (not saying anybody in this thread is), but this was nothing more than a rejection of Moore. He's always been a controversial and unpopular figure even before everybody found out he was a pedophile. In 2012 he only won 51.8 percent of the general election vote for Chief Justice. Mitt Romney won 60.55 percent of the vote in Alabama that day.

Yes, I personally voted for Saban three times.

It's very likely Jones loses in the next election.
