Does your school have an "elder statesman" that meddles in athletic affairs?

Obviously, UT has Fulmer that has one upped and bullied himself into the AD spot.
Auburn has Pat Dye.
Bama doesn't really have one. Maybe Paul Bryant, Jr. but he's been quiet since Saban has been around.
Who does your school have and how much of a detriment is (or isn't) he?

Don’t forget Spurrier.

Nope. No former head coach in the area... There is this funny golfer though

How do you say Fulmer and not Haslam? His son is literally an elder statesman.

I can't wait to hear SOS's comments on Phatlock bulling his way into the AD post at Tennessee.

He is probably going to pull the same stunt in Gainesville. You know he hates for Phil to one up him.

Ours respect the staff and don't try to create coup attempts.

Nah.
We have a few big donors who are more outspoken than others, but no one like what you describe.
Coaches are employees—no more, no less.
They aren’t Former Students/Aggies.

Shite will go down between spurrier and Mullen. I heard him on with some of the guys on espnu on xm talking about trying to help the struggling offense by “walking through practice and giving them some plays” when mcelwain was there

I know it's hard to believe, but Spurrier really does love UF more than himself, if only by a hair. He's been nothing but supportive of our head coaches and administration.
Jeremy Foley is the real answer for UF who needed a magnanimous retirement then tried to run the AD through his numerous underlings after leaving. Really wish he'd get back in the game at a small college a long ways away.

Jim Wilson. Fortunately, he was kicked off the BOR last year. (He was the architect of the Sumlin contract)

One cannot be "supportive of our head coaches", and be all up in their business giving unsolicited "advice". I doubt Spurrier would have appreciated some old UF knucklehead telling him back in his early days to not play any of this "fun and gun" style of football.
