He's basically Fulmer lite. Or Fulmer Heavy.
He's basically Fulmer and you should hire him.

There's three things I've learned to never discuss with people.

I think Chaney's done a pretty good job this year, especially considering we had a true freshman qb. The east was a mess, so our schedule hasn't been so tough, but our offense actually looked dominating against weak teams this year, as opposed to last year when we struggled every game. I doubt Kirby wants Chaney gone right now, poor performance against Auburn notwithstanding.

I agree, we may lose Pittman but we need a more dynamic offense.

He's also undefeated as THE head coach of the VOLS.

Pittman would leave with him.

That's pretty silly. Our offense was about as dynamic as you could hope for with a true freshman under center. They protected Fromm and he's handled his role very well. That's about as dynamic as it gets under those circumstances.

Cheney has had some of the best O lines in his career due to Pittman. We know Cheney was brought in as a package deal. Cheneys offense has never scared anyone, he relies on Pittman recruiting the biggest lineman around. Cheney was so down on his own offense this off season he had to re-evaluate what he has been doing. Albeit it has been one of the most incredible turn arounds. Cheneys offense is built to set up the pass with the run and is not a spread everyone is running these days to counter big fast defenses.

I'm not sure all your statements are accurate. First, the story I read was that Smart asked Chaney to come, and Chaney said he would if Smart could get Pittman to coach the OL. That's not quite the same as "Cheney was brought in as a package deal". Smart went after Chaney. Chaney was the one who asked for Pittman.
Second, this statement is false, "Cheneys offense is built to set up the pass with the run". Chaney's offense has been quite pass heavy at times in the past. In fact, some Vol fans were accusing him of ignoring the run and relying too much on passing. The last two seasons he's had true freshmen at qb, so he structured his offense around his most reliable weapons, i.e. Chubb and Michel, instead of a couple of freshmen who weren't quite ready to be a major college qb. That's a case of a smart coordinator who uses what the roster gives him.
Third, there's no rule that says a "spread" offense is superior. We did very well without it this year and plenty of times under Richt too. If the personnel fit, a well run pro-style offense is tough to defend, and it's been used quite successfully in the NFL against big fast defenses.
