Bo just had that guy on talking about the potential coaches Arkansas could hire. He said a few interesting things.

1. That we don't want Chad Morris. He basically says the guy is terrible.

2. Jeff Brohm is the best coach available.

3. Not to even consider Charlie Strong.

4. Brent Venables may be great, but that without an exceptionally thorough interview it's hard to say, and he thinks Venables is waiting out the KState job.

5. Mike Norvell is good. Compares him to Scott Frost. Says the numbers bear out that the guys are nearly identical in terms of coaching strength.

6. That if he had to hire a coach for Arkansas that Mike Leach would be his first phone call.

I thought it was an interesting interview. I knew that Brohm was good, but the science nerd says he's the best in the nation in the category of coaches that are available.

He qualifies it as conjecture, but I have a hard time believing that. I know Venables played there, but it’s an extremely tough place to win, especially in that conference. What Snyder has done there is unbelievable.

Granted, I’m sure many are saying the same about Malzahn and our job.

I know nothing about Morris, but his big appeal is the Texas recruiting ties, isn't it? Did that factor in?

I like Strong, but I bet he'd play hell pulling anyone from the state of Texas now.

So, what is it that I've missed that says Leach is available?

Nothing about Kiffin?

I guess give me Norvell, hopefully defense won't just be an afterthought.

Dave Bartoo is the guys name and he's about as sharp as they come when evaluating how good a coach is relative to his talent.

He uses his own "coaching effect" designed metric and also compiles how much talent (on paper) a team has an dhow many wins they should have against their schedule with that talent.

If a coach beats a team with more talent than him, he gets a plus 1 score and if he loses to a team with less talent he gets a - 1 score. Often there is a wash because some teams are so close in talent.

But the guy has been pretty dead on on many many coaches. He has been screaming from the mountain tops for years that Larry Fedora is an atrocious coach and the chickens finally have come home to roost. He is also big time anti Charlie Strong (and rightfully so I would say)

His site used to be free and it was awesome but now it's pay for play. He's still a good follow on Twitter though, but he doesn't post near as much as he used to.

He's also a part time weed farmer in Oregon in the offseason!

If I were CBS or ESPN, I would hire this guy in a heartbeat to replace "the Bear" or guys like that. He has a very Jimmy the Greek feel to him

They discussed Kiffin but I was a little distracted at that time. I think he was trying to say Kiffin is only experiencing his current level of success because of Kendall Briles. I could be wrong.

There are other things in play when evaluating a coach than the score of a game against another coach.

We should know that full well after the Bielema disaster.

He said he was curious who was calling the plays for him. He said he wasn't sure who it was between the 2. Said he was a boom or bust type.

I moved from NWA in 2014. I listened everyday when I was driving all over. Bo is a good guy, but the most he does is creat controversy when he easily could talk more positive and put out what he knows.

Morris - efficiency standpoint hasn’t been good, recruiting metrics aren’t good, recruiting stratification and reach is not very good, the way he breaks down his roster hasn’t been very good.

Very low grade if we end up with Chad.

At Arkansas it behooves you to have an excellent game coach over recruiter and guy that proven to accelerate talent beyond the schedule.

Take the talent and make more of it than what is there.

Bielema was tasked with rebuilding the Arkansas program left in the wake of the Bobby Petrino scandal and the forgettable John L. Smith season that ended in a 4-8 campaign. Having to rebuild the roster is one thing, doing it in the nation’s toughest division is quite another, as Dave Bartoo of CFB Matrix pointed out Friday on the Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly.

“By the measures we have here, and we came up with a new one actually in terms of coaching staff, ranking a staff in terms of efficiency versus its talent. I think you have a really good coach there (in Arkansas),” Bartoo said on the air. “(Bielema’s) coach effect numbers were positive at Wisconsin, I think he’s doing a better job of coaching now than he did with the Badgers.

“Numbers aside, everyone is going to want to look at win/loss record but you know his coach effect is over plus-1 game a year. Your last two years your recruiting class by my numbers is about the four-year moving average of the previous four years, so you have a more talented team, you have a coach that coaches beyond the talent for the schedule. You are just in a brutal division with a talent disadvantage. Getting double digit wins, if anyone gets double digit wins there it’s just an unbelievable season.”

While Bielema has yet to reach the lofty goal of a 10-win season in Fayetteville, the Razorback coach found a way to post his first winning record in SEC play last season (5-3) and appears to have set a solid – with an upward progression of talent coming into the program – foundation for years to come. As Bartoo notes, don’t get completely locked in by the overall numbers, Bielema has done an excellent job for Arkansas thus far.

Research the fraud Bartoo.

Jack Ruby gave a good breakdown of how the guy evaluates coaches. What he said about Morris specifically is that his offensive AND defensive efficiency numbers are abysmal.

I do know that this guy knows his stuff. He was spot on with Missouri and Florida this season for the same reason. Efficiency. Missouri got some stuff figured out midway through the season this year, but they were terrible early in the year because of their efficiency numbers on both sides of the ball.

So yeah, a lot of people, myself included, thought Morris would be a good fit for Arkansas because he is a former High School Coaches Association President down in Texas. Which means he's sure to recruit well down there. But apparently he simply isn't a good coach. I'd take this guy's info to the bank.

Considering Kiffin's interview earlier today and this interview, I think I would be okay with a Kiffin hire if he brought Briles with him.

I'd list the coaches he spoke about as follows. Just my opinion of course.

1. Lane Kiffin (with the caveat of Briles being OC)
2. Mike Leach
3. Jeff Brohm (I would put him #1 if he was a known recruiter in our region)
4. Brent Venables (I think this guy is great and will eventually win titles somewhere)
5. Mike Norvell
