Should ATM hire Dan Mullen?

It seems like:
Dan would be a very good fit and hire at ATM.
He'd have top-tier facilities, resources and recruiting grounds there (TX loaded w/ HS DT-QBs & spread offense), as well as a fanbase that's more reasonable and patient in their expectations than UF and UT. Best of both worlds for him (and his wife).
His floor there would likely be equal or above Sumlin's ceiling. Mullen (w/ Grantham or Chief) could hit the ground running there.
ATM could make him a sweet offer. He'd probably take it.

He wouldn't have to change color shirts either

We haven't ever had this thread started. A truly riveting thought.

Jimbo is their new coach.

If Mullen ever leaves it won’t be for another SEC job. He will end up at Michigan or Ohio State or Notre Dame, maybe even a west coast spot like USC or Oregon. TAMU has to recruit and that’s not Mullen’s strength. You also have way too many factions within the AD Department and booster organizations that require a certain amount of direct contact with the TAMU coach and that sure isn’t Mullen.
Maybe they will go after Saban. They have more money than Bama.

He sought the UGA job that Kirby got. Reportedly his hat is in the ring for the Tennessee job. I suspect his hat's in the ring for the ATM job too, since it appears likely be open soon.
There's big booster interaction at most big programs. It doesn't seem all that bad at ATM. Of course he'd want to feel comfortable that he'll be able work well with the AD and be supported without boosters meddling in his FB program.

When Dan does decide to leave, MSU will once again show the rest of the SEC not named Bama how to hire a coach. State has made the best hires in the past 10 years. I trust Cohen and company to outwork and outsmart the bigger boys. Again

I would prefer him at Florida.
He could have a lot of success there.
And when he did, thanks to the shitty conference matchups, we would only have to face him once a decade.

I just can't figure out how Mullen is going to be the head coach at A&M, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee.

Merlins ~ wizardry.

Looks like Fisher and Patterson are the frontrunners for the position. I'd be freaking thrilled with either one

i think we all know that sumlin will beat O and they'll give him a 5 year extension.

That's the front runners for who Aggie is targeting though not who will actually be in the race.

Don't know why you're downvoted, it's a good gig for him
Both are boring schools capable of consistent, if not excellent, football success
Both are more low key than other vacancies (TN, UF)
TAMU would be a solid step up in possibilities for Dan w/o getting thrown into a truly high profile gig

It's a pretty dang good fit and move for him and ATM. Good floor and upside potential. I expected downvotes from MSU fans, plus Aggie fans who would view him as an unexciting meh hire.

Aggie is an extremely unexciting school. And that's not really an insult.
Nor does it mean it's not a good job, or that the right coach couldn't do very well there.

Yes, Dan Mullen would be very dangerous at aTm.
Why don't SEC schools steal coaches more often?
Why did Bama not hire Saban straight from LSU back in 2005?

Idk. It's not unheard of though. Tubbs from OM to AU. Fran from UA to ATM. Nutt from Ark to OM.

Maybe Saban was fully intent on the NFL then.
