I just want a coach that is known for excelling at one side of the ball opposed to neither, I don't personally care whether it's offense or defense. History shows that offensive minded coaches can win here and our recruiting base probably plays better into that, but if you can get a Gary Patterson-esque defensive guy here you absolutely do it.
Don't care if he has major P5 HC experience although some HC experience would be in my criteria. A good, innovative, effective coach and leader of young men translates to any level of program.
I would also like for him to have some recruiting ties to the region, even if it's not Texas-heavy like some would hope for.

This is key.
I read Bear Bryant’s autobiography a few years ago, and there was a quote in there that stood out to me wherein he said he hated losing more than he loved winning.
Seeing as how our current AD doesn’t demand excellence, we need a coach with an edge who demands it of himself and who detests the mere thought of losing. The acceptance of losing has been pervasive in our program throughout Bert’s tenure starting with his 13 game SEC losing streak, and it’s manifested itself in our current culture to the point where our players are surprised to even be in games at halftime (see Santos’s comments about the team dynamic during the locker room at halftime this past weekend).

The hiring tradition at Arkansas is bringing in established head coaches with previous success....going back basically to Frank and all of his hires.
This is why the Norvell rumors seem a bit out of character. He's so unproven. But he does have connections to the state and would probably be a decent fit.
I just want someone who can bring some life back into the program. I was talking with someone yesterday about the games and we both wondered why the hell we were even still watching them...
Honestly, I'm so soured by Bert's bullshite I just hope I can get behind the next coach without getting burned. That fatass has made me so cynical about the program, I never thought I'd think that way, but leave it to him to hit yet another loser milestone!!

I've been cynical since the mid tenure of Nutt... I remained so during Petrino just waiting with baited breath for him to screw it up and screw us over. I wasn't shocked with his demise... But took it as the norm of being a hog fan.
I erroneously thought CBB would bring us back, he was a huge name hire and boy did that crap the bed as well. We are snakebit as frick in sports, especially in football.
I am ready to try a different route...
