63% Career passing is now mediocre...? Boy the bar keeps getting pushed further and further back. When he completed 4 straight passes and a TD in the 3rd qt Saturday the silence was blaring.. the kid can literally do no right.. This is just hilarious to watch. He has 1 int and he sucks lmbo

You know damn well that kid isn't going to sit in the pocket and throw dimes all night. They use him perfectly with situational passing, easier throws, and always a check down, which he is good at hitting.

Danny Etling has more yards, a higher QBR, higher yards/attempt, a similar compl % (60%), and the same TD/INT numbers (9/1).

No one is arguing he's a good passer of the football.

If you think stats is what makes a player great, then sure, carry on. There are circumstances and nuances to every stat. For example, I can complete near 100% of my POP passes.

And again, stop with the hyperbole. He's not bad. He's just a mediocre passer on a team full of 5 star players. He's good enough to win most, if not all games Bama will play. But, he's still a mediocre passer.

I like Hurts, but I've got to disagree here. The 63% passing isn't good considering the types of passes that we generally attempt. It is very obvious that Tua makes those same passes on time and more accurately than Hurts (ask #3!). Imo, the question is whether Hurts' experience outweighs Tua's superior passing skills....and that's a question that I'm sure Coach Saban has considered, and is continuing to consider. That's why he makes the big bucks!....thank God we've got an option!

I honestly cannot tell if this is a troll attempt or not. Completing 4 straight passes is his biggest achievement that you're using to brag on him about?

He is a mediocre passer - just looking at completion percentage doesn't tell the whole story. He is also one of the best runners i've ever seen at the position and, thus far this season, doesn't turn the ball over. That combined makes him a very good, nearly great, college qb. Still can improve and if he does improve in his mid-range passing, ball placement, etc. he will be close to unstoppable.

That stat is a bit skewed. The vast majority of his completions are either at or behind the LOS or they are within 10 yards of the LOS. Those easy throws will make your completion percentage look better than it would be in a traditional passing attack.

Look, Hurts has many positive attributes:
1)the guy has ice in his veins. Not many frosh QBs could throw a pick in tiger stadium in the 1st Q and remain poised. Hurts did.

2)the boy can run. No explanation needed.

3)he doesn't make risky throws. This allows the guys around him to make plays and keeps the defense out of short field situations.

Those are all positives but don't act like the kid doesn't have some deficiencies as well.
I don't have any advanced statistics to provide but his completion % on passes beyond 20 yards has to be bottom half in the league and that's with a legit deep threat in Calvin Ridley as his #1 WR.

So far Bama has been good enough to where this hasn't really bit them in the arse yet BUT if they ever run into a team that can shut down the run for 4 Quarters without wearing down AND can score a few times to go ahead by a couple of TDs, the inability to throw the ball down field will be exposed.

Obviously I hope LSU is the team to do that but if I'm being honest, I think the only 2 teams that have the ability to put Bama in that situation are Georgia and Penn State.
