Their 1980 team was pretty good.

I've had the weird feeling since Smart took over that Georgia was going to break thru finally.
This season feels like this is the year.

I'm not knocking that y'all lost. More of how they lost and how they played during that game.
I understood your point and thought it was a good one. I don't see this team getting blown out, either. I would say it is a top 5 Georgia team all time. Close to that, anyway.

But I don't see this UGA team having a 2012 UGA/SC moment in any game they play.

They are basically Auburn without having played Clemson. Both teams are being made to look better than they really are by a really down SEC.
Any of Richt's mid 00s UGA teams, except 06, and the 2012 would beat this UGA team.

You might be right....but there is a difference with this team. At least on defense. In the past our defense would go for a Sports Center highlight hit on a ball carrier. Now we have 5-6 layers going to the ball and hitting the ball carrier. I think you are right, that we have not truly been tested, but they seem different to me. It's been awhile since we truly blew out another team, even when we should have. I absolutely believe we will know more after Auburn and Florida, though.

Just registered about you mid 90's statement. He came in 2001, I believe....however, I'm sure you meant his early teams, which is a legit point.

What are you counting as mid 2000s?

None of them in first half of season would beat this team first half of season.

Yeah. I'm sorry, but no one is going to get excited for Fromm in that drive which settled for a field goal and gave us a 1 point lead with 3:30 left in the game.
People will remember the two 3 and outs that our defense forced. The last one being the sack/fumble recovery to give us the ball back and allow us to take a knee.
Seriously. We are miles apart on this one. And 6 months from now if you are still touting that as a gamewinning drive instead of touting the gamewinning defense, then I am shocked. Fromm might have his big moment in him. But a 30 yard completion to Wimms at the 20 yard line which settles for a field goal with 3:30 on the clock remaining will not be it.

That's your choice to remain ignorant to the impact of that drive. The defense wouldn't have been in position to seal the deal if we didn't have the lead.

I'm not knocking UGA, I just think you are underestimating how putrid UT is and even though MSU felt like a big game they've been exposed badly as well. They barely won against the one decent team they played and even that team was 4-8 last year.
It's not your fault the East is terrible and you're doing what you should do to bad teams and I would be pumped if I were a UGA fan as well but you still don't have a QB that your coaches totally trust and those teams I mentioned didn't have any of those issues except for the head scratching loss each year to an average team.

02-07
Minus 06
02- would be a true battle - tossup
03- this defense was ridiculous and would stifle this offense some, but that offense was pretty mediocre. If forced I would give the edge to 17
04- Eh, hard to say. The team that played LSU would pretty much beat anyone they lined up against that day. The one that played marshall/ut/au probably not. Tossup at worst
05- Probably give the edge to 05 because of DJ
07- If played in November I'm going 07. If September/October I'll go 17. There is simply no excuse, none whatsoever, that team should have lost to either SC or UT. But that team isn't the same one that played UF/AU/Hawaii.

ND is 5-1 with 5 blowouts. It might be time to move past the 4-8 thing.

The thing is that there isn't much that those 02-07, 12 teams did better than this one. They weren't any better (and were usually worse) defensively, they didn't run the ball as well, maybe had a more developed passing game, but it's not like David Greene was chucking the ball all over the yard. 07 and 12 were much more explosive offensively but also much worse defensively.

We won't know until the last month of the season, unfortunately. Florida, Auburn, Tech, and SECCG (if we get there) will be the most telling games this season.
At this point I think we go 2-2 in those (losses to Auburn and Bama in SECCG), which would put this team on par with some of Richt's better teams but definitely not the best of all time.

With Eason back, Fromm wouldn't be starting if they didn't trust him.
Your memory of those early uga teams seems quite limited. It's exaggerating the positives while downplaying the negatives, and doing the opposite for 2017.

I'm not saying I'm in any sort of disagreement about your take on this (I actually think you're giving a pretty level-headed assessment), but I really get tired of the Notre Dame was the only "decent" team played and they were "4-8 last year" spiel.
I think it's time to start admitting that this year's Notre Dame team is a better team than last year's. They've already surpassed last year's win record, so it's not really even debatable. What they do moving forward will be interesting since Wimbush was injured and didn't play last week. Not sure if Ian Book has more potential or what, but it will be of interest to see where they end up. Up to this point, though, they are definitely a better team than they were last year and it's time to put that to bed.
