He hadn't established himself as a NC coach yet, and the talent he assembled won the 2007 championship and should have won the 2006 championship.

If he had stayed, he probably would have had the same success. And that fact is why it bothers LSU fans so much. They realize what could have been.

LSU fans should be upset. Gators get it probably better than anybody else. Urban had "heart issues," then spent an ENTIRE YEAR so fricked up on benzos that he didn't know his own name while Steve Addazio was basically HC. He took ONE YEAR away to "be with his family and start a new life" or some shite and then moved to Ohio.

So yeah frick that dude. I get it, LSU fans. Putting aside my dumb sarcastic shite for a sec to be real. Y'all got it worse than we did because we got 2 titles out of our guy and ours didn't end up playing us every year. fricking sucks - Bama gets the best coach in history and that should have been you. Would have been you had Saban not had that ego that pushed him to Miami.

I would say probably not.

LSU is historically on a lower tier than Bama, as are most teams. If you were to assume that Bama and LSU are relatively equal in all areas of their football programs except for the HC aspect, why hasn't LSU had an undefeated season since the 50's? Has LSU historically made bad choices for their HC hires?

Only LSU people that realize CFB existed prior to 2000 need answer.

I don't think so.. I think he would have still had a lot of success, just not the Bama type success. Bama is a traditional blue-blood with almost UNLIMITED resources, budget, tradition, etc AND he has been given carte blanche. When he came back to Bama he was a better coach but it's MUCH easier to build a powerhouse program at places like Bama, OSU, USC, etc. As much as I like the Yaw Yaws and they are a top tier program, they aren't a traditional blue-blood.

Let this sink in, Mike Shula, Mike Price, and Dennis Fran, looked like rock stars at times when they were at Bama. Would ANYONE consider those guys top notch coaches?
