I'm not sure if it's a crush, or if Calvin is the typical first read. It's not like Jalen is going through his progressions to find the open guy. If the first guy isn't open, he takes off running.

I think that's what it's been so far. One read, then run.

It is for the most part but its designed. He gets a lot of green grass on empty sets.

So the staff only coaches him to look for the first read and if it isn't there take of and run? I am gonna have to call bullshite on that one.

A ton of his plays are 1 read only and run. So yes some of them are. The play to Ridley over the middle was a read 1 or run. Call whatever you want pal, I've seen enough of their practices to know it is a thing.

Rod Gilmore brought this up during the broadcast after the sideline reporter made a comment about not seeing Jalen make his 2nd or 3rd read very often. Gilmore sounded like he had either seen this first hand in practice or the coaching staff talked to him about it during their broadcast prep this week.
I'd say it's legit.

Well that certainly will keep morale high amongst the receivers not named Ridley. This will bite us in the arse against the elite defenses that take away Hurts on the ground. I just don't think that's very good coaching. Jalen isn't a freshman anymore. Just win I guess.

It's not exclusively all we do, it's meant to eat short yardage away from a def. We run, we pass short or medium, we throw long occasionally. We have done all of those things thus far.
If we empty set, that means 1 guy who's free minus the DL covered by OL gets a shot at Jalen, if they don't get him he runs for whatever amount until stopped.
The receivers get plenty of opportunities to make plays. Foster was given a short pass in space and his athleticism took over.

Boz, I agree that it has worked so far but it troubles me to know that it is one read and then take off. That is fine when it's a rpo but don't tell me that it isn't like that on most all of our pass plays. I know it is an unforgivable sin to question Nick Saban but we are elite as frick at WR even more than we are at RB imo and this just sucks. Don't know any other way to say it.

D Harris looked slow as a freshman too. It's because he is unsure. He'll get there.

4.3 yards per carry isn't great regardless of your year. Najee should become great, maybe even within this season, but right now he's not. Not even for a freshman.

If Najee doesn't look ready, how in the frick do you think our other backs look?
Did you get two Harris confused? Najee is a clear step below Damien and while Bo hasn't been very good this year, he has a track record to fall back on. If all the backs are healthy, Najee only deserves mop up carries right now.

It makes sense, after all, for our QB to target our best WR the most.
Also, I think that Najee has looked as advertised for the most part. Sure, he doesn't have it all figured out yet, but he has looked just fine to me. I think people on this board get confused between bad run blocking, and bad running by a rb.
As far as Hurts suposedly being taught to make one read and take off, I dont really believe that, and it is nothing but conjecture.

Najee has been what I expected which is worse than the three exceptional, experienced backs on the team. I've seen nothing from him to warrant getting carries once Jacobs is back. That's not even a shot at him. Just a credit to the other guys.

That is redundant brother. Ridley has opportunity but you can't call it one with Foster getting one catch.
