Bulldog fans:
Is the Miss St defense better in your base 5-2 front?
Or better in your 4-2-5 nickel?
Does one have weaknesses that can be exploited over another?

Running will be tough on MSU. I would suggest running just enough to keep them honest, and throw it to this guy a lot.

shite man.. I like the 3-4 with Sweat walked up on the strong side. 5-2? Do you even know what that is?
ETA: I'm mistaken. My bad.

5-2 is what your team does in a base defense against a team that wants to run the football.
It is essentially the Buday Ryan Bears defense minus a linebacker at safety.
Grantham struggled at UGA when spread out (our ends of the 4 man fronts couldn't hold the edge). That does not have to be a problem for you guys, but does happen a lot when a 3-4 OLB is asked to put his hand on the ground.
I'm guessing that it is too soon for you to know the patterns and deficiencies of Grantham'Grantham's schemes.

State has a couple of freaks playing OLB....Green and Sweat....they really open the middle for Simmons. It is very difficult to get the edge against State because of their outside backers. Most haven't heard those names, but they will.

That is why they usually say it takes a couple of years. Your DE's need to be bigger, you need a big hybrid DE / LB to play the outside backer / pass rusher edge position.

Have you noticed your defense better or worse when in the nickel?

Lorenzo Carter has finally put on enough weight to hold the edge this season. Davin always had the size, but his hand placement has improved a ton so far this season. They've been in the same system for 4 years now and we are just now improved when in nickel.

It really depends. State's safety core is really good with Abrams (Georgia fans should remember him), Bryant, and McLaurin. They all tackle well in space and support the run well.
The biggest concern with this team coming into the year was corner, but they have played very well thus far.
State played a lot more nickel against Louisiana Tech (spread team) and went to it on passing downs against LSU. Linebacker play and safety play are extremely underrated with this defense, and the defensive line is a collection of beasts. It's gonna be tough for Georgia to run the ball, but they can have some success through the air if they can keep the pocket clean and your freshman QB can handle his progressions. State is going to take some things away on defense.

Our OL goes hot and cold. I expect troubles with a clean pocket. I expect troubles running the football. But then I expect us seeing success as well (mostly on the ability of Chubb/Swift /Sony).
I have faith in our defense. I don't have faith in our offense to outscore you. We will need home field advantage, defensive turnovers, and strong special teams to help for the W.

State will lose their normal 4 or 5 games this year

They have invented this stuff called "film". That technology may not have arrived in Mississippi yet but I assure you Georgia's staff has access to it. I think he's just asking as a conversation starter.

Based on his second post in the thread, looks like he was attempting a set up to take a shot at Grantham.

Not much of a difference. Teams are only 9/41(22%) on 3rd down conversions against us, so you might lean better in the nickel. Team are 0/8 in the 3rd quarter after halftime adjustments.
3rd and Grantham is looking pretty good so far.

UGA's issue with 3rd and Grantham was due to our Mike linebacker. We had a linebacker come on specifically for 3rd downs (Christian robinson).
It is like changing quarterbacks on 3rd down every series and trying to relay the play call to your teammates in time (except for our Mike linebacker, the other qb could get the snap before we were set).

Ole 3rd And Grantham is 10th nationally in 3rd down percentage defense.
