me not knowing the rules on this type of thing:
Auburn does not have a culture of excellence.
Look, I'm going to get flamed for saying this, but its true. I have friends who are very, very, very close to the program at AL. I mean more than big name donors, I mean inside the inner circle and we've had some long conversations.....
Say what you will, but Satan demands excellence in every aspect. Down to the thread count of their player' socks. They have a level of excellence that would make the US Marines envious. I don't mean cheating nonsense, I mean real execution on even the most seemingly insignificant detail.
Auburn does not have this. Neither does anybody else at the college level (although I would like to believe I do at our level - you can only do so much).
Until we have a philosophical change at the AD level, we will never achieve excellence. This requires loads of money to do, BTW, and honestly, I don't see our alum willing to do what it takes.
We either need to decide we will be bullied, or become a bully. And most Auburn folks don't want to be that kind of program.
It's the truth....

Thanks but I believe most folks just want to see us compete with everyone
Win 10 games every couple years or so
Not get blown out
Run a functioning offense

Well, we have STILL always had a CHANCE to be exactly what Clemson is right now. Been close SOOO MANY times but just can't EVER seem to get out of our OWN WAY. Who does this sound like? Ironic, eh?!?

Unfortunately everything he said is true...

Believing that our problems are bc of some abstract theme like locker room culture is bullshite IMO... we're not missing blitzes bc of culture... we're not beating press man bc of culture... we're not calling shitty plays in a shitty scheme bc of culture. The coach and his philosophy are the same today as they were in 2013.
If you guys want to blame our struggles on some mythical presence... go right ahead. Our problems are offensive coaching.
FYI... the culture in the program is the same for the offense and it is for the defense.... and the defense is fricking awesome.

Change is coming. Strong rumor, but still rumor is that JJ will in fact retire. He made a very poor and unprepared presentation to the board when asked about JH and the second video board. The new Prez was not impressed and JJ had the softball scandal also.

Should have left that dumb shite where you found it.

Can anyone help clear some things up for me regarding the inner workings of our athletics department? First and foremost, I want to see JJ fired—I want to make that clear. Too many programs have suffered under his watch, and there should be an AD in place who is much more deserving of the position.
Now on to the real subject I wanted to put forth...
We have talked about a select group of individuals who hold the majority of control over decisions made within the athletics department—the "Good Ol Boy" group (GOB). I've only closely followed Auburn athletics since 2003, so I'm not completely aware of the GOB's history within Auburn athletics. Can anyone with a longer knowledge inform me on how long the GOB's have been influential? If you remember back to when JJ assembled the coaching search committee that brought us Gus, Mac Crawford was on it. He really didn't fit the bill as he seemed virtually unknown until he was announced to be on this committee. It seems as though he might've had the say for the GOB on the committee for who we should bring in next. Can anyone confirm if Mac Crawford is indeed considered as one in the group? I know these are a lot of questions on a group that A. might not even be that well defined and B. might not even exist as we think of it existing. I'm just looking for some clarity on the political workings of our AD.
Should JJ be fired, I know the President and BoT will have the final say on the replacement AD's hiring, but I cannot help to think that the GOB could have an indirect influence as well.
This may just be me being pessimistic, but due to these political workings behinds the scenes of our AD, I'm not even confident the infrastructure is in place to hire a competent replacement of JJ should the time come. It's easy to note the better Div I athletic departments, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, UNC, Duke, Florida, Georgia. When the time comes for any of these schools to hire a new AD or coach, it seems as though they have a reliable process in place to hire a smart, long term candidate without the influence of any personal agendas. Contrarily, as an Auburn fan, I feel as though these Good Ol Boys are primarily worried about what's best for their own rank of power/egos instead of what's best for Auburn.
I want to see Auburn athletics be great, but lately, I've lost a lot of hope across the board in seeing progress in any sport. Unfortunately, I'm quite worried that the source of this goes farther back than anyone really wants to acknowledge. I wanted to get this out to you on here, and I'd like for any long time Auburn fans or anyone with "the know" on our athletics department to clear up any misconceptions I might have. Should I have hope as an Auburn fan?

I think the only way you should have hope is if Leath truly commits to hiring an outsider without any ties to our athletic department. You referenced a bunch of schools having plans in place. I hate to say it, but all you have to do is look across the state. When Battle was ready to retire, Bama went and snatched up Greg Byrne, who was considered to be one of the top up and coming ADs in the country. And an outsider.
