How does a "steady program" in the 8th year of the coach's tenure go 5-7 in the regular season with losses to South Alabama, BYU and Kentucky? LSU, in the throes of our decline, has players who weren't even born the last time we had a season like that.

Do I need to explain the difference in LSU and State?

It's the only losing season he's had since 2010. Do I need to write out State records pre-Mullen to show why averaging 7-5 there without any meltdown seasons is an accomplishment?

Three of those losses were on the last play of the game so the 5-7 record could have easily been 8-4.
In looking at the State from a contextual standpoint, he has done a great job over 9 years now.
We are not a program that is going win 9-10 games every year. Our fan base understands that. What he has done has been to develop a consistent winner that is generally very competitive week in and week out. If things go our way we can 9-10-11 games here and there with an occasional 5-7 record in the mix . Now, he is to the point where slowly year by year our recruiting is getting a little better and the on field results are evidence of that.
Now will we win tomorrow night. I do not know but I think we have the expectation of winning this game whereas several years ago we only hoped to beat LSU. Now we expect it.
That is the difference between 2009 and 2017.
