Hurts took what the defense gave him today.

Plus he was a terror today on the ground. We can win it all with him. We don't need him to be Tom Brady, just be a manager in the passing game and punish them on the ground. At least he doesn't miss the short ones. Good game for Mr. Hurts. Tua wasn't bad for a freshman either.

He didn't turn the ball over so that is always a plus. The safety should have intercepted the ball in the end zone. His running/scrambling ability was fantastic today!

It was Alabama against Fresno State, they should take from the defense what they want. It was more of the same. Quick, easy throws outside the hash marks. Would've preferred to see them actually work on the things he's deficient in since there wasn't a chance of losing.

Good game to get his confidence going. Hurts just has to progress more at scanning the field. Start scrambling and jeep your eyes down field.
Overall he do good today. Guy is amazing at improvising.

Pretty much everything you've posted the last couple weeks is the exact opposite of this.
What gives ?
Ive been trying to tell you this, and you've been all over the guy saying he cant complete a forward pass.
Maybe you can join me in trying to talk some sense into all the Hurts bashers since you've apparently seen the light now ?
Or will you go back to bashing him the next game he struggles in ?

I haven't seen every post he made, but he didn't bash Hurts that I've seen. This has been a recurring theme since AJ left. Some fans were blindly devoted to Sims, some were blindly against him. Anyone who had legitimate gripes was dismissed by the blind lovers and if they said some of the things he did well the blind haters dismissed them too. Same thing happened with Coker. Now Hurts too. It's okay to have some reservations about Hurts' ability. It's okay to acknowledge he does some things well. Just because you think Hurts is a great runner who can dink and dunk doesn't mean you're a Hurts fanboy, and just because you think Hurts hasn't proven himself a capable intermediate passer who can make the tight throws to win close games doesn't mean you're a Hurts hater who is bashing him.
So nothing gives with OP. Hurts played well today and he's acknowledging it, because he wasn't bashing him before. He's a Bama fan who loves Jalen, he just shared his opinion on Jalen's abilities as a QB.

Here I'll do the work for you so you can make an educated comment.
I was only willing to read through a couple pages of his post. I'm sure there is plenty more. I've been arguing with him for at least a week about giving Hurts a little credit.
quote:
he throws the ball more like Brandon and Treon Harris than Tebow. Any defense with really good players shut his shite down. He isn't a dual threat guy, he is a single threat guy.
quote:...
Hurts can destroy a bad defense on the ground but he just isn't gonna beat you with his arm. Jalen won't sniff the NFL as a quarterback.
quote:
sit his arse on the bench and groom somebody else to run the offense. If we continue to run the same shite every week then we will no longer continue to get elite receivers to come block for Hurts.
quote:
He clearly can't pass a football at this level. Might win the heisman at Ga Tech though. Unfortunately, we aren't tech.
quote:
A mediocre passer with our wide receivers would put up huge numbers. Hurts is surrounded by the most elite collection of skilled talent in America yet we are still making excuses for him and propping up his ability to move.
quote:
I wouldn't call the OL our biggest weakness on offense. Not by a long shot
quote:
if our opponent has a stout defense we aren't gonna be able to pass for more than 100 yds or score many points? Last year's excuse was that we had a true freshman quarterback. How many times this year are we going to say "well, they had a good defense"? Will be nice to be able to stop making excuses and actually get the job done.
quote:
I would hate being a wide receiver on this team though. They will all probably be elite blockers by midseason.

I still believe he is a below average passer and the staff likely agrees based on the gameplan the first 2 weeks. He is our guy though and I know he is our best chance to win. Just no need in me beating a dead horse.
The time will probably come when we need him to throw downfield and I hope he can do it. Our running game alone will topple most teams from here on out.

He threw many passes downfield successfully yesterday. He threw many slants.
Just stop this nonsense and do like Huddie will do... wait for his first turnover then come here and bash him. SMH

He threw one slant route. Many is a huge understatement.

14-18 for 128 yards simply will not cut it against the toughest teams on our schedule. The percentage is fantastic, the yardage putrid.
The blueprint to beat Bama with Hurts has been drawn: walk your safeties up in the box and take your chances playing man. One of the safeties is a spy on Jalen to keep him contained on the ground. Blitz like crazy and wreak havoc. It stops the ground game, contains Jalen scrambling and we won't make you pay for gambling with the receivers.
We had an opportunity to work on stuff yesterday against a completely overmatched opponent. We didn't do a good job of that. The offense went out there and went through the motions and turned in an ugly but sufficient performance. Bo is not the same Bb that ended the season. He finally started showing glimpses of it yesterday but he's not the wrecking ball with moves and speed he was. Not yet anyway. It's almost as if he flinches slightly from contact. I'm sure it's a mental thing for him but we sure need him 100%. Damien put in his usual workmanlike performance: little flash, lots of substance. Cam Sims emerged as a legit target for Hurts which is good. He had a very good game. Robert Foster is fast as hell. He showed his top gear on a reverse and on an overthrown ball in the end zone and that guy has wheels. We need to involve him more. Shitty game by the offensive line. Not enough push on runs and the pocket was too messy on most passes.
I was really disappointed in Jalen yesterday. He did take what the defense gave him which was usually an open running lane but passing, he didn't do much to improve his game. He had one great pass on the TD to Hentges. Fresno blitzed the outsider backer on that side and Hentges released right to the hole left by the vacated backer and it was easy pitch and catch for 6. Otherwise, we didn't emphasize the intermediate to long passing game, Jalen didn't scan the field much, locked onto his primary target too often and bailed out of the pocket too early and often.
I'm not bashing the kid. I like him. A lot. But there were a lot of coachable mistakes from week 1 against a good defense and I didn't see that a lot of coaching had occurred against a very overmatched defense yesterday. Same Jalen, same mistakes and opportunities. He IS the best we have at this point. But can't we coach him up to be a better decision maker? We have some great playmakers. Teach him how to find the open one and deliver the ball. Don't lock on to #3 and then take off if he's covered.
The coaching needs work too. The offense still has no identity. We don't have a go-to sequence when the shite hits the fan. Play calling is random and disjointed. We don't seem to call plays to set up others later. It's just a mish mash of random shots taken. Daboll sucks. I know it's early but he doesn't know what he's doing, at least calling plays. And running everything out of the shotgun isn't working. I miss the pistol, going under center, etc. that gave us more options of what to do. Defense was very sloppy but effective. A lot of youth on the field, and a lot of youthful mistakes and missed assignments. Thank goodness yesterday and next week aren't powerhouse opponents or we would pay dearly for some of the learning going on. I hate the mush rush and it didn't work yesterday if that was indeed the design. It appeared to be or else our front 4 got their asses whipped most of the day. We were more effective in influencing the play when we turned them loose the few times we did. Secondary kept everything in front of them and tried to limit YAC which they did well but we never tried to jump the route.
It was a very meh performance yesterday. The players weren't into it, the crowd wasn't into it. Hell, BDS sounded like there was a titanic croquet match going on and it was smashing to observe it. I'll take the easy W and be happy for it, but I don't think a lot was accomplished with it and the opportunity was there.

Everything you are bringing up is coaching and playcalling. Jalen doesn't call the plays he executes them. Why wouldn't Jalen sail down open lanes? It's the safer bet than a throw.
You said the Offense has no identity yet they have had 0 false starts, 1 holding call, and no bunk plays from confused plays. SO I think what you mean is the OL has played average because the right side is weak. Well that should be fixed by our next game with Wills becoming the RT and someone else at RG.
Posted on 9/10/17 at 10:24 am to CrimsonBoz
Cotton and Womack are average at best. A change would be nice. Wills may have earned the start but who else can play guard?

Leatherwood took reps at RG this last week of practice. I am thinking something may be up there and I've heard the same from a "sauce" as you guys like to say.
