With the unavoidable heart attack jokes in mind. Urban really makes a great point here. Can't imagine kids like hearing that they are basically rented items until you get your new shiny toys to play with.

It's the dilemma any new coach faces when his system is significantly different from what he has inherited. You don't want to over emphasize the reality to the current players but it is a reality none-the-less. Myer is definitely not in a position to be throwing rocks in glass houses in this regard.

My problem with his point is the comparison with him coming in after Tressel. Tress left all sorts of talent, Urbz did not leave the same at florida

Depends on your scheme and what you want to do.

If you want to run power football and inherit spread type personnel it's going to be difficult.

This is what happened with Arkansas after Petrino left and they brought Bielema in.

Meyers, for all his faults, is absolutely correct. The day you sign that contract those players are "yours" and to build your team you need to own them. It's all about perception to the people you lead!

I hope Oklahoma stomps a mud hole in their butt Saturday night. Meyer is a lower than whale crap, and that's on the bottom of the ocean.

I'm reading the Herman quote, and I kinda get what Urban is saying, but the quote itself seems more like Herman blaming himself and his staff than attacking the players. Implying the team wasn't very good when they arrived might not be the the best course, but it's not untrue -- as anyone who was there last season can attest -- and Herman's phrasing is just as easily interpreted as saying the problem was the coaching and his coaching staff hasn't been able to overhaul the system completely yet. The latter of which could easily be quite true.

Obviously Meyer is still a jerk and he still resents Herman just like he resents Mullen.

Yep. Neither did Strong. Texas was awful for the last 8 years or more.

Love him or hate him (personally I can't stand the guy), Urban Meyer is the best coach in the business. He knows what he is talking about. And he has turned two different programs completely around in very short order.
What he is basically saying is that these coaches are idiots for saying these things. They aren't playing the psychological game right.

Interesting that he would go out of his way to call out Herman. Some other threads have speculated at some bad blood between the two.

Tres left some talent but being a tOSU alum and watching the SEC kick the shite out of my school the entire time I was there, I couldn't disagree more that Tres left a bunch of talent that fit Urban's scheme. We had Carlos Hyde who is a north/south runner and some VERY average WRs and a lazy underachieving Oline. Braxton was the only thing tOSU had that fit the Meyer scheme.

I like Urban. One of the all time greats and still has a lot of years to add to his legacy. He has a team full of savages.
