Hurts is BY FAR the best option we have.

Well, the next 2 games should clear some of this up so I'll be tuned in.

Either Mac Jones or Tua is definitely going to play tomorrow and the following week. We have to have a backup QB and that guy has to take snaps in blowouts.

So, if it isn't Tua or Mac, then it will be a walk-on, but I think we all know that isn't who is #2 on the depth chart.

If we put it away early the backup will play. Need them to be ready should Hurts go down.

That brings up a good question.

Does Fresno actually have a pulse this season? They opened up the year beating the crap out of a team that, based on name, appears to consist of nuns, priests, and altar boys.

Do they have play makers that could put up a fight at any position?

At the time, Lots of folks wanted AJ to start over Greg.

Logically, I think Tua should absolutely be redshirted. There isn't anything he can provide this year unless Jalen gets hurt. We can skate through our schedule with Jalen.

If Jalen doesn't progress as a passer. He is more than likely staying for 4 years.

But we have to have a backup QB who has taken a snap in a game.

Somebody is going to have to come in and play QB in blowouts. Jalen is not going to play every snap for 14 or 15 games.

Then sit his arse on the bench and groom somebody else to run the offense. If we continue to run the same shite every week then we will no longer continue to get elite receivers to come block for Hurts.

I agree with this but the exodus of last year has put us in this bind. I'd rather chance it unless Jalen gets hurt.

I'd rather play to win now. And, I think that's what Saban does. The future will be taken care of in the future. Saban will play Tua. That's why he put him on the depth chart as the clear #2. He not going to risk having Jalen go down in a close game and having to put a QB out there with no game experience at all. That's my dumb opinion anyway.

Agree. Redshirts in this day in age as a mechanism to get all 4 years are not feasible anyway. We're not going to risk this year so that Tua can get 4 full years when he might either leave for the NFL or transfer somewhere else. The risk/reward doesn't add up.

Also, didn't he specifically state earlier that he was going to play Tua?

Do you think Tua will sit on the bench 3 years to play 1? I don't. I would note that I also said last year that Barnett would transfer. Tagovailoa is apparently better than Barnett. Why would he sit for 3 years.

Pretty sure he did. If a guy is #2 on the depth chart Saban is going to play him. Folks should know by now he doesn't play games with redshirts and roster moves.

“I think we have to get more guys involved in the passing game,” head coach Nick Saban said after Wednesday’s practice. “I think guys have capabilities, and the only way they’re going to develop confidence is if they have a few more opportunities."

Yea, I'm guessing we have the WKU/Kent St gameplan from last year. Let Jalen throw the ball around the yard to 10 different guys on all different route tree options : long, short, across the middle, to the sideline, in the flat, etc. Then let Tua come in and due the same.

I wouldn't be shocked if we ran for like 120 yards on 20 carries or something and threw for 400.

I wonder if Mac Jones get any time as well. Wouldn't shock me if he got a couple series, though with Tua being the backup they'll probably get him as many reps as possible.

I hope they let Tua play as much as possible instead of giving Mac some snaps.

It is the perfect game for Tua to get his feet wet. Should Hurts go down (knock on wood) we don't need to trot out a true freshman with zero snaps of experience.

Tua or whomever will play when the games are put away.
