Why did Emory Bellard leave Texas A&M during the 1978 season?

had had good teams in mid 70's ,especially the 1975 team, and was ranked #6 at one point in '78.

Always seemed strange.

I was 2 years old so I am certainly no witness and have no memory, but the story I always heard was that after a couple losses that season some donors started grumbling. Bellard went to the A&M President wanting confirmation that he would be around the next season. He didn't get it and promptly resigned.

That's my understanding anyway. Some older Ags might have a better idea.

They never could handle that he helped invent the Wishbone at Texas as an assistant coach and that he played football for D.X. Bible at Texas for one year.

Went 40-13 in last 4 1/2 seasons with 2 ten win seasons...

4-2 when he left program in '78... Odd...

great post.. more people should know about Bellard.

Houston donors pushed Bellard over the edge. I'm not sure he was truly HC material, but he took a dead program and pumped some serious life into it.

Has anyone ever seen Satterfield, Randy, texas horn and Bart in the same place?

I think not.

I think all four are the same person. Randy spends a huge amount of time in campus libraries, based on his writings. Randy's wife left him for an Aggie so he is still bitter over that. He has no money so he has access to campus library computers, so he can post his drivel.

I rest my case.
