Why does everyone here seem to hate the idea of gus as our coach?

And spare me the high school bs. His high school offense beat us by 53. He's already coached in a national title and a sugar bowl if we're being honest hes probably going back to another new years 6 bowl this year. Obviously were not auburn and don't have the talent to work with but I'm pretty sure if gus is our head coach we do much worse but the people on this board act like if he was the coach we would drop to 2 and 3 win seasons.

I have never understood it, either.

I think it grew out of the high school bs you're referring to.

I've never understood it either but I imagine it is like wmr said above. Personally, I would have taken him in 2013 and I'd be open to considering him now if we were looking.

That ship has sailed though and he'll never coach here again.

He's gone 8-4 (lost bowl game 8-5); 6-6 (won bowl game 7-6); 8-4 (lost bowl game 8-5) the last three years. Only bowl victory was the Birmingham bowl.

He's 18-14 in the SEC at Auburn after replacing Chizik. His last three years he is 11-13 in SEC games.

Bielema is 10-14 in SEC games the last three years.

He is in a more fertile recruiting area with talent all around and can't get any consistency or development at QB.

I don't want any man coaching my beloved Hogs who thinks it's a good idea to throw on a turtle neck and sweater vest on game day.

I originally thought people disliked Gus because of their weird hatred of anything from NWA. However, when you delve more into the Springdale 5 and Mustain/Nutt debacle you realize that there is much more to that hatred.

Gus is Houston Nutt with a better offense. He is a slimy human being. He used high school players to get a job at Arkansas. The worst part is that Gus plays the whole innocent "aww shucks" country boy role. At least with Petrino you had an upfront a-hole.

There are a shite ton of better coaches than Gus out there for us to get when Bielema is gone.

I just hope that Bielema leaves without drama. It'd be nice to not have a golden handcuff or motorcycle moment. I also think we need to go get a young up and comer.

Because he isnt necessarily a knock it out of the park hire and the hire would divide the fanbase.

I would have been been more willing to roll the dice while he was an assistant now that i know what you get im anti the hire entirely.

Whether you like his style of play or not, or whether you think he's a flaming D-bag or... well OK I haven't really heard anyone dispute that claim... Gus will not be the Arkansas coach.

Arkansas will not hire a head football coach with close ties to major boosters in state after the Nutt years. The AD does not want to have to go through the bitter divide it had when Nutt was toxic to much of the state but still had the support of the Little Rock boosters. Malzahn would be toxic to at least half the state just walking in the front door before he coached a single game.

Its the same reasoning as why we don't play in state schools in any sports. University of Arkansas sports is built on the concept of the school represents the state and nothing can be allowed to endanger that. Changing that would be like Alabama deciding to deemphasize football in favor of golf.

If a coach came along that was universally beloved across the state then he might be hired. So if football Jesus shows up in Arkansas he's got a chance.
