Just like a lot of Mizzou fans are protesting by not coming to games the players had a right to protest.
I just have to say it, but Mizzou football has always been mediocre when Pinkel coached. They did win 4 conference championships in the 20 plus years under him, but they were destroyed in the B12 and SEC championship games.
When BO took over from Pinkel he said that he wanted to bring in more highly rated players than Pinkel. Let's see!

BO will succeed or fail based on his talent evaluation and development. So far that looks to be pretty good.
Johnson was added after BO became DC. BO wanted him.
Crockett, Mason and Garrett were late adds after BO became HC. All 4 were key freshmen starters last year.

The players had the right to protest, but in hindsight it was not the right thing to do. Young kids today need to think more about what they are taking a stand on, instead of just jumping in every fray. If they don't, nobody will take them seriously in the future. Too many times of crying wolf.
As for GP, he was wrong in every aspect for diving into the fray. He needed to stay neutral. To this day, I still think the reason he resigned was from pressure from contributors to the program. His cancer was in remission the previous May.
That's about the only "right" thing Kim Anderson did during his time at Mizzou. He talked to his players about the situation, then let them decide if they wanted to join in. He stayed out of it!

WTF do you call a top 10 defense??
This is BO's team now........ The protests are loooooong since over..... Let's see what he does this year.
Maybe stop making excuses before Season II even starts.

It could have been a top 10 defense had Brothers, Brady & Simon played last year.
BO also made the mistake of changing defenses with the proper personnel to do so (includes coaches and players)

Most had that figured out before the season even started last year.

I'd take this more seriously coming from you if you said anything close to this prior to the last season starting. After a really bad season, it just sounds like justification.

Put Brothers in R&R defense and it's a solid defense. That's how many plays the LBs missed last season.

Mizzou will be forever an average team. .500-plus and podunk bowls are in our future into eternity.
God just, plain doesn't like us. It's right there in the Bible.

They went back to playing a Tampa 2 with a one gap front at Homecoming and allowed 260 rushing yds per game and 16 Rushing TDs the rest of the way. Burkett averaged fewer tackles per game with the scheme funneling the ball to him.
Lee had one game with solid production.

I call it part of a losing team.
WAY bigger than that though is the completely disengaged fanbase.
Everything Pinkel did was undone the day he let the team protest. It set us back bigly.

Call it what you want...the fact remains.

But you didn't think that before the season.

13 of the 34 players were linemen. You are saying that kind of attrition doesn't impact a teams long term recruiting strategy? We can agree to disagree.
Posted on 6/6/17 at 3:03 pm to JesusQuintana
I didn't think what? I thought the team would be better, sure.
I didn't know fans would refuse to show up for games? Did you? New information ever change your mind? It does mine.

The poor fan support had little effect on the on-the-field results. If you want to broaden the discussion to the state of the program, we can. But Barry hasn't done anything to get people excited or change the fan's perspective.

That was the discussion. At least my discussion anyway.
A lot of people for whatever reason, seem to think Pinkel left a well oiled machine and he did not.
I wouldn't say poor attendance has zero to do with on field results either. It's somewhat of a factor at least.
Agreed

GD How about just the cold hard reality that your Mr "It Factor" wasn't ready for prime time?
This isn't rocket science.
He's had a year to get over himself. Let's see what he does this year.

Odom will be fine. He doesn't have the flare like most head coaches have, but our new AD will take care of the boosters. Barry just needs to focus on coaching, and getting the kids ready to play and win. It'll happen. I don't look for us to be competing for a natty anytime soon, but we never have. We don't get the thorobreds like Bama does, and that's due to a lot of factors....not just wins and losses.
Posted on 6/6/17 at 6:26 pm to SemperFi
Its more rocket science than hur dur.
There are many factors that go into a successful program. HC is just one of them, chief amongst them, but only one.
He made mistakes his first year. Not at all uncommon. In fact, poor first years are the norm.
He needs to show improvement in yr 2. No doubt. BO knows and can coach football. I have no doubt of that. We'll see if he can overcome the rest.
